Has Discovery brought you back to Trekbbs?

No, no, I meant :

For which I now apologise unreservedly.
No, I apologize for being too thick to catch that :guffaw:

Now that I've tied up that loose thread, I'm afraid I'll have to end you.:censored:

I actually just came back a few weeks before, but all the arguing may very well drive me away again.

I used to be very active on TrekBBS's great rival, TrekWeb.

I just belatedly transferred myself here during this long dry period with no Star Trek on television.

But it was very different. I must say the 2000s were a time when you could press F5 and a discussion thread on TrekWeb would go from 1 reply to 25. It was insanely busy compared to what we have now. It's comparatively barren these days, but I hope Discovery will bring people back online. Maybe forums are just old news, and people rather talk with each other on WhatsApp or something, or leave comments below a blog post. But forums afford you the opportunity to get to know other posters contributions, and have an archive of interesting information/essays/pictures from thoughtful people that would be a pain to type on a blog's comment's section, or on WhatsApp. I just wish internet forums were less aggressive at times - its like they bring out the worst - all discussions become highly assumptive, and arguments start easily.

I can't wait for the episode discussion threads like there were for each episode during the run of Star Trek Enterprise. It's nice in a way that each episode is still being released once a week even though it's on CBS All Access. Gives us all a chance to watch each episode at the same time and discuss it. Just like the old days.

Websites like Reddit somewhat negate the use of forums. While I do probably spend more time on /r/startrek than I do here, this place is a little more tolerable. Not that I'm particularly in love with either.

I imagine it'll get a lot more active around December/January.

Dare I admit that I don't really know what "Reddit" is? :)

I mean, I've heard the term thrown around and I know it's some kinda new-fangled computer thing, but . . ..

@Greg Cox - It's a big ass forum basically, but it's distinguishing feature was that people's posts get up-voted to the top of the thread if they are liked a lot. From the era when voting on everything was in vogue, (supposedly a sign of democracy and collective intelligence). I think it has had some controversies, becoming a home for racism maybe, and people dislike it now, or something. Or maybe they don't, I dunno. It's cool sometimes to lurk on anyway.

Unless you were joking I mean :)

The upvote/downvote system is very flawed. If you post first, you're likely to be at the top.

I started posting on here about 17 years ago, then started just lurking with occasional posts. Then in one of the forum switches my account was deleted so I continued lurking once a week or so, but not posting at all until a few weeks ago when, yes, because of Discovery and the 50th Anniversary I signed back up and started posting again.

To a degree, yes. I'll never post as much as I used to again, I don't have time for it. BUT, as long as things don't get Old School ENT Forum-y, or regulars don't start ripping into people like piranhas for voicing the "wrong" opinion, then I'll stick around. Even when I was a fan of whatever was being put out, like the 2009 film, some of what I saw on here in the old days was too much. I don't know how it is now but, back then, both sides were just as bad as each other.
I think the Internet has changed considerably in the last decade or so. Especially on older boards like this one that now has a fairly established community. We all know each other and many are even FB friends, and overall I think people realize that the person on the other side of the keyboard is a real human. Hell, even Wordforge and what remains of Troll Kingdom isn't as over the top flamey as they once were, and that's what they were designed for.

Star Trek Beyond has brought me back here actually. Really looking forward to the new series too though.

Its definitely brought me back - I'm a keen observer of these forums again. Its bringing back happy memories of the time when Enterprise was in development, and its amazing how a lot of the same conversations from back then are happening once again!

I've lurked for the JJ movies (which I'm overall a fan of), but its always really been the series that interest me far more so than the movies, so Discovery has definitely piqued my interest again.

I came here for Doctor Who but stayed for the Trek. Although I did lurk here for a long time before joining this will be the first time I will be a member when a Trek series is on the air.

Kinda.
I always read up on threads, and post once in a while. There's just a few more topics recently with Discovery that I'm posting in!
