Harry's Law - David E. Kelly's new show

I think this show has a chance.

It did get 11 million viewers for the premiere. That's not great, but on NBC? Not bad at all.

That actually is great. 11 million viewers for a 10PM show is actually really good, more so on NBC. The problem is the demo. One episode really doesn't matter, we will need to see a few more to see what it levels off at. I still believe it's a very strong start for the show, and the ratings increased after everyone woke up from The Cape.

If Parenthood could get a second season, and still be on the air with several episodes under 5 million viewers there is great hope that Harry's Law will be fine.

Once again... it's on NBC, they have almost no standards.

The only thing that might get in the way is Comcast because DEK is as liberal as they come and might not like what he has to say. ABC was kind of the same way with Boston Legal.

Yep, so I'm rather hopeful.

No Spader, Shatner, Bergen or interesting city = no sale.

Kathy Bates is a good name to draw in potential viewers, and no interesting city? It's in the Queen City! Cincinnati may not be as big as New York or Los Angeles, but thank god someone chose a different location for a TV show. Some of us appreciate that!

I will say this: anyone who has been in the more troubled sections of Over-the-Rhine (which is probably where this is supposed to take place) knows the streets in this show look way too sanitized.

Bates is a solid actress, sure, but not even on the same hotness spectrum as Bergen. ;)

Finally watched the pilot after having it sit on my DVR since last week. I have to say, I liked it, though ironically, the court parts were the weakest link, and they felt completely different from the rest of the show, not just in tone, but execution. The show has a lot of heart, which I don't think is the usual for this kind of thing.

I just caught a courtroom scene while channel-surfing and, while the dialogue could have come straight out of Boston Legal, the set design and lighting were really somber and dignified-looking. It was just strange. In BL, everything from the CP&S offices to the cheery orange courtrooms and even the brightly-lit jail cells looked bright and pleasant, thus allowing the ridiculousness to bounce merrily on.

Then I surfed away...

The third episode has very little if any courtroom scenes. :)
