Harry Potter 7 to not be in 3D

Part 1, anyway.

I thought this series' typical film style (the generally low lighting levels, for instance) made it a vulnerable to the same shoddy process that were said to harm Clash of the Titans and The Last Airbender, so it's nice to see them acknowledging that whatever they were trying wasn't working.

Be interesting to see if they have any more success with Part 2.

You know, the entire rest of the series isn't 3D. I think it's silly to make these last couple movies 3D at all.

Oh good, when films are in 3D my cinema only shows them in 3D, and I do not want to see films in 3D.

^Same here. As Paula Poundstone says, "Why would I want to see movies in 3D? I see 3D all the time."

It's probably for the best, though I did see Part 6 in IMAX, which had the first reel in 3D, and I didn't think it was an outright travesty.

No 3D (legal) Emma Watson: one more reason not to see it. :p

Seriously, though, I'm sure it's for the best.

Wow, everybody hates 3D now. It's almost like it was just some kind of fad or something.

No, I think 3D is fine. But if the film is not conceived and directed with 3D in mind it really just makes no sense and becomes a blatant money grab.

Avatar was great, Coraline was great, Clash of the Titans sucked. It sucked in 2D as well though, not because of the #d effects.

Yep, exactly. There probably will be more 3D conversions until technology becomes cheap enough for studios to have more of them conceived with 3D in mind. I was watching Leno last night and he had some of the Jackass 3D stars on who claimed it to be the best 3D movie. Yeah, Right.

There will come a time in the very near future when three D will be the standard, but until then converting movies to three D makes as much sense as colorizing black and white movies, and like that is a fad that will not last long.

Before Color became the standard, it was used effectively in films like The Wizard of Oz in much the same way the 3D is being used well today.

3D will not become standard until they can make it work without glasses.
And without it being a legitimate distraction to the on-screen action. Honestly, as many times as I've seen a 3D film, I keep "noticing" the effect and it pulls me completely out of the film.

Forcing cumbersome glasses on viewers isn't helping matters, either.

By the way, has anyone made a 3D black & white film yet? You know, just to be needlessly artsy?
