Harry Morgan, RIP

This is very sad, though he did have a long, wonderful life. I loved him as both Frank Gannon and Colonel Potter, two iconic characters from my younger days.

RIP, Mr Morgan. :(

Rest in peace, Harry. :(

Oddly enough, I knew him originally from watching Dragnet on Nick at Nite long before I ever got into M*A*S*H. Either way, Harry Morgan was a charming and wonderful actor who will be dearly missed.

I love his older stuff - he's always popping up in Westerns and gangster movies. Unmistakeable face and voice. He never changed. Great performance in the Ox-Bow Incident.
His name often pops up as a director, too.
RIP.

I was never a big fan of the Col. Potter character but Morgan was great in the role as he was in so many. One of those dependable character actors who just worked and worked and worked, it sometimes seems like he was in half the westerns made in the '50s. He was in so many great movies: Inherit the Wind, High Noon, The Glenn Miller Story, The Big Clock and on and on. I especially like him in one of his early roles and one of my all-time favorites, The Ox-Bow Incident.

RIP sir.

R.I.P. Mr. Morgan. Very sad. M*A*SH really took a turn from good to even better when Colonel Potter took command of the 4077.

Farewell Mr. Morgan. Thanks for the laughs.

I was just thinking about this song the other day that Col. Potter liked:
"I love to go swimming with bow-legged women,
And swim between their legs,
Swim between their legs...

"Sherman T. Potter." I'll always remember that in Klinger's voice.

One of the remarkable things about M*A*S*H was that the new cast members were every bit as good as the originals. That goes especially for Harry Morgan.

He has an enormous filmography. Does anybody know what his role in Ghostbusters was?

R.I.P. Sir.

like the poster of the video said
In my opinion, the most powerful moment in television history. Harry Morgan's brilliant acting

Sad. I was looking for a reason to pull out my MASH DVD's and have a mini marathon. I'll make the time this weekend in Mr. Morgan's honor.

Still, 96 is a pretty good run. I hope I make it that far. Only 55 years to go. When I found out last year that he was still alive and 95 years old, I was really pulling for him to make it to his 100th birthday in 2015. Too bad that didn't happen.

I've been trying to decide what my next big DVD purchase would be, M*A*S*H or Oz, but I think I have to got with M*A*S*H now.

I find it hard to be sad about the death of someone who has lived a long, full life. I sincerely hope that the domestic violence program he attended had some positive effects on the short time he had remaining. From the Yahoo article linked earlier:

Morgan did have one notable off-screen scandal. The character actor was arrested in 1996 and booked for spousal battery after police responded to a 911 call from his wife, Barbara Bushman. Bushman had a cut under her right eye and a swollen foot, according to reports. Charges were dropped after Morgan agreed to attend a six-month domestic violence program.

Thanks for knocking him off the pedestal. I was so starry eyed I had forgotten he was just a human being.

It's also possible at that age he might have been starting to suffer from a mild form of senile dementia and the incident was related to that.
