Happy Singles Awareness Day, everyone!

picture.php

Happy Day in which it's awesome to be Single because you don't have to Succumb to retailers and Sees Candy buying stuff for your significant other. ;)

I have no problem with Valentine's Day - it's good for people to have fun with - but found two things amusing:

1) Wikipedia's "Featured Article" today is - appropriately enough for those online this evening - Star Trek.

2) I've gotten into the habit of buying a bunch of fresh flowers on a Monday. Nothing special, just a standard bouquet of roses or whatever, to brighten up the house. Today, they not only cost a bit more than usual, but had a lot more thorns. I found that subtextually hilarious.

I can't tell if I'm miffed that my S.A.D. thread has been turned into the Valentine's Day thread, or chuffed that the Valentine's Day thread is contained in a S.A.D. thread! :rommie:

Oh, the irony!

It sounds even worse when you abbreviate it as SAD. Make it a happy day. Tell someone you care about them. It doesn't have to be a day about wallowing in the bitter realization that you're alone on the "most romantic" day of the year.

Ignore the hype and just have a good day, you know?

If you dislike Valentine's Day, be happy that there is still just the one day devoted to it, unlike in Japan where it has somehow become two separate days, the regular Valentine's Day (when women give gifts to men they like) and "White Day" (when the men give gifts to the women, but only if they themselves received a gift on Valentine's Day).

I have no problem with Valentine's Day, I've just had terrible luck with it in recent years, always being too far away to celebrate it with the girl I like (or was liking at the time). This year was no different, but I got to talk to her anyway. Could have been worse.

So happy Valentine's Day, or whatever the hell else it's supposed to be these days (just looking over Facebook I've seen at least three alternate celebrations mentioned).

I used to occasionally buy myself flowers, too, until I adopted my cats. They think everything green that grows is either kitty salad or a toy. The latter would be okay if there weren't water in those vases just waiting to be knocked over.

To be honest I didn't even know it was today.
I was aware of the preparations for it, but not that it was today (until my roommate notified me).
Meh, I just don't pay attention to such 'days'.
