Happy 30th, Empire!

Today is the 30th Anniversary of the seminal "The Empire Strikes Back". An exciting movie that, with Godfather 2, set the standard for sequels.

Plus Vader was never more badass.

I remember the wait for ESB when it was new. A friend had seen it with his dad before I had, and he refused to tell me anything about it. He said he didn't want to "ruin" it for me. It took my mom and me weeks to get in due to advanced ticket sales, and all showings being sold out. It was early July before we got in.

Thirty years.....

Shit, thanks for making me feel old.:bolian::lol:

Worst. Star Wars. Movie. Ever.

Whoever thought the bad guys would actually win next time? Those AT-AT walkers, snowspeeders, the duel between Luke and Vader, and the big "reveal"...this took everything to a higher level.

Still love that outfit Luke wore on Dagobah and Cloud City to this day...and Billy Dee Williams' Lando Calrissian remains one of my favorite Star Wars characters.

QFT - all of it. Except possibly - note that I only said "possibly - Vader was pretty nasty in Episode IV, too.

Meh, he was Tarkin's bitch. He only got awesome in his TIE Advanced and in the opening sequence.

Plus James Earl Jones put in a better performance in Empire.

i gotta ask as someone born in 86 which was better to first see
teh Star destroyer in the first film pass over or the AT-AT's

But he does pick up that rebel commander with one hand and choke him, as well as using the "remote choke" on the Imperial commander. Still.... in "Empire" he really is more "Vader Unleashed" isn't he?

My buddy works for Lucasfilm and was at the big screening two nights ago and got to meet Harrison Ford!
I'm obviously jealous.

Star Destroyer, definitely. Such an amazing visual, and that ship just kept coming and coming... :) You basically knew in the space of 60 seconds everything you needed to know about the Rebellion and the GALACTIC EMPIRE.

What a great three years that was from 1977 to 1980. So much anticipation, and for the first, and as it turns out only time for Star Wars, the movie delivered.

1983, 1999, 2002, 2005: not so much.

Truly the best of the films, and not just because of it's "darkness". Watching it through the eyes of an adult, having gained a better appreciation of film in general via DVD, it truly is a better film than all the others.

I remember my friend and I playing with our tauntaun's in the sand, because it was the middle of summer and there was no snow in Kansas at that time of year. I remember thinking it odd that our toys were different. Mine had the hard plastic hinge piece for the figure's legs to go into, and his had the soft "orifice" type flap.

Yes. Every time I saw SW in theatre, the opening sequence either got gasps or nervous laughter or both. It was just shocking to see.

Happy Birthday, ESB!

Still my absolute favorite of the movies. You know you're getting old when your favorite move turns 30.
