This thread is for people that saw Star War The Force Awakens. Please do not read any further if you do not wish to be spoiled.

Basically what did you all think of the way Han was portrayed in the new movie and did you like the last scene with his character in the movie? Did that last scene seem like a strong moment for the guy we first met in that cantina on Tatooine all those years ago or a weak moment?

I'm going to say it was a weak and disappointing moment and I will elaborate on that when others that have seen the movie start to post here. I'm keeping this first post fairly spoiler free. I think most expected Abrams would handle Han the way he did and I felt it sucked just as I expected it would. Its just my opinion though.

I liked that he and Leia are no longer together, but still friends. And that he's STILL running around with dangerous cargo  This all seemed in keeping with his character.

Up to that point I like how they portrayed him but he was pretty stupid at the end. This tough character we all met in the first movie in the cantina dies by his sons hand and doesn't even see it coming even though he knows how dangerous his own son has become. Then he get thrown down a shaft with no fight left in the character. We all knew Abrams was going to kill him off it was obvious from the start but it wasn't the sort of death I imagined for the character. I would rather had seen him die in battle with the Falcon and Chewie. The character came in the SW universe strong and left in a weak way. I know most people loved the movie but I was ultimately disappointed. Its like what original character are they going to pick off next. These new movies are just designed to kill off the originals and bring the new characters which frankly at this point haven't been real interesting.

Being murdered by your own child is the biggest death you could give a character, bigger than blowing up in your space ship.

Also he died like Qui Gon did (my favorite SW character).

Really would have liked to have seen Leia collapse and not just get quiet though.

But to make his death so damn obvious. It was no surprise once he walked toward that catwalk that he was dead. Kylo messing with Han was also obvious. I expected a more heroic death instead we get a Han that died in such a damn pathetic way. What next for Episode VII a defeated and tired Luke trains Rey(Who doesn't seem to need it) and then stabs himself with his own lightsaber? At this point I expect another crappy death awaits our last hero Luke in Episode VIII. Man I have to say I miss Lucas at this point. I never thought I would say that. LOL!

Well I cried so it did have some impact.

However it would have had more impact if he had sabered him somewhere else.. as soon as I saw them on that bridge over the impossible height I figured someone would die.

Yup and we knew it would be Han. At this point I have less desire to see the SW epVIII and absolutely no desire to see the Han Solo prequel story.

Same old Han. Picked up right where he left off. We're all home again.

His death didn't surprise me because I figured that Ford would do this one-off on condition that Han be killed.

No real interest in seeing a young Han Solo movie either, though I will of course. :o

Han's final moments were completely in-character. Here's a guy who gambles at nearly every turn. Why wouldn't he roll the dice on his own son?

That's the tragedy (and point) of the scene.

I thought it was touching when Han raised his hand to Ben's face after being stabbed. I felt as though he was telling his son he still loved him in his final moments, in spite of what he had done.

It really struck me when Han, Finn, and Chewie stormed the base. Just earlier, we saw Han trying to talk his way out of a mess with two gangs simultaneously. Yet at the base, he was gunning down stormtroopers left and right, no questions asked. They were two separate Han Solos, but of course, we've seen both of them in the original trilogy, too.

The Han who was ultimately killed seemed to be a combination of the two. I agree, he took a gamble on his son out of love. But this was also no-nonsense Han. No jokes, no sarcasm, no witty quips. He was being a straight up father who simply wanted to see his son again. Even after he was stabbed, the way he lovingly caressed his son's face was incredibly heartbreaking.

I can understand your point here but why did Abrams make his death so damn obvious. A movie should surprise not be obvious. We all knew Han was going to die but a more fitting death would have been him to die while trying to convert Kylo back but have Luke at his side and go down a bit stronger. Instead we have a weary Solo that dies on a catwalk of all places(Prime Kirk dies on a catwalk). We all knew the minute he stepped on that catwalk what was going to happen. My friend and I both said before Han even went to Klyo. "He will talk and try to help. Kylo will fake him out. Lightsaber to the body then Han falls." So obvious. Sure Solo gambled his life to help his son but with everything Kylo had done up to that point(Helping create the New Order and mass murder) you would think Solo would have at least took some precautions.

The confident Han Solo we all knew and loved was only in this film for a few short scenes and a broken shattered Soo was in the rest. Damn he didn't even get to take the Falcon into battle and only got to fly her for a short time. Sad ending for Han.

I fear for Luke in the next film. Hes also a shattered hero. Both of our unlikely heroes ran away and left Leia holding the bag. Now one is dead. I'm starting to wish they would have left well enough alone.

The original thing to have done would have been to keep Solo around for the second film and give him a proper send off after he reconnected with Luke.

People get tired and weary in real life. People make misjudgments in real life.
Fictional heroes shouldn't be immune to that.

And since I stayed mostly spoiler free before watching TFA, I did not *know* that Han was going to die. To me there was no indication of this going into the movie. I just assumed that Ford had a contract for all three movies and that the character would be there through this new trilogy.

Well I'm going to have to give Han a pass. I think most people's judgement is affected when it comes to their love for their child.

It does seem though that Ben was thinking a bit clearer: Strike down your father with all of your hatred and your journey to the Dark Side will be complete; Mission accomplished you little shit!!

Well I hope Luke fares better but I think we all know where this is headed. Luke trains Rey. Luke fights Snoke or another dark lord master(Snoke is kind of large for Luke to fight but who knows) and dies. Rey battles Kylo and Kylo returns briefly to the light side and somehow kills Snoke or another dark lord master.

I figured a year ago Abrams would kill off Han. I went into the movie with no spoilers but I knew it would happened. It just happened so obviously and pathetically. Getting stabbed and then thrown down and fried in a vent shaft. Ugh.

Worst hero death since Shatners Kirk bought it in ST: Generations. Catwalks are becoming a villain to be feared.

There's no indication that Snoke is large. That was just a holographic projection.

Just like how the Emperor in the original trilogy didn't have a gigantic head just because his holographic projection was a gigantic head.

True. So Luke will get killed by Snoke. Rey will defeat Kylo but somehow convince him to get back to the light side and Kylo will destroy Snoke and Rey will be the last jedi standing ala Luke in ROTJ.
