Guh. SGU DVD sets split?

Why is SGU coming to DVD so quickly? Most shows take a fair bit longer to make it to DVD, unless they're called Law & Order: SVU...

Well, it's an expensive series to make. Perhaps MGM is pumping out the DVDs as fast as possible (thus the half season set) in order to (a) hopefully attract more viewers by the time the back-half of the season airs and (b) make some ancillary profits to pay for the series right now and (c) just make any money right now, as MGM is doing very poorly financially.

I wish the other L&O series would get to DVD this fast. SVU is pretty much day-and-date (as of now, ALL of it is on DVD except the currently airing season); the original L&O, on the other hand, is in its 20th season, yet only 7 seasons are out on DVD. Pick up the pace, people! :brickwall:

SVU has been released so quickly because the series is more popular and the DVDs sell better than the original L&O (or CI).

The producers wish.

You're looking at two different situations. L&O is a long-running series (and, also, one that is likely soon to end), SGU has just started. And MGM, unlike (I assume) whoever is producing L&O, is in need of money very badly.

I saw Syfy advertising the next episode as the "season finale", which was news to me. However, it makes sense now that they're marketing the discs in this way. I have to admit, that is one long list of special features, and it's very tempting but no way in hell am I spending $50 on that. For that price I could buy 3 seasons of SGA at Wal-Mart right now! I'll wait for a price drop or a whole (true) season boxed set first.

Sci-Fi has always seemed to advertise the last episode before a long break as the "season finale" for the Stargate shows.

Well amazon.com has the DVD set for a rather reasonable $27.99. The Blu-Ray set is, unfortunately, a less reasonable $38.99.

It seems they are copying nuBSG in more ways than one. Does anyone know why BSG had its second season DVD split in two? Because I don't remember the break for that one being as long as season 4. Is SGU the only Stargate going to be released on Blu-Ray What about SG1 and SGA? and those are much more popular with the fans that SGU.

Oh god, I just saw the cover for the Bluray:

Once you see "it", you really can't unsee it. I can't believe how that got past the censors.

Does anyone remember the good ol' days where a "midseason hiatus" meant taking a break just long enough to rerun the first half of the season and when we would get 20 or more episodes of television for $40? :(

This really is massively disappointing. I would say that i just won't buy it, but I'm enjoying the series enough that this would likely be a lie. It really, really sucks though.
