Guh. SGU DVD sets split?

Well, there's been very little in this first half that has been worth a purchase, so I'm not going to bother. I assume this is MGM's ploy to confront decreasing DVD sales. Let's see if it back-fires.

What? Oh, that's bullshit. I was planning on getting the first season but I'm not laying down thirty to forty bucks for twice for half a season. No way.

Not getting it. I stopped buying Atlantis a few years ago and this show has shown me nothing to suggest I reverse that decision.

$50 bucks for 10 episodes?!! Meaning $100 for both sets... Sorry, but I'll have to pass on these..

hell, I won't even buy B5 for $50 a season, what makes them think i'm gonna buy half a season of She-douche and the great Atlantis rehash for that much

This is hardly a surprise, Gateworld already announced a few months back, around the time of the premiere in fact, that the DVDs would be on half-season box sets.

I have to wonder, given that BSG had, SGU is having, and Caprica will most likely have its DVDs on half-season box sets, and the increasing amount of time between the two halves of the seasons (SGU S1.5 isn't expected until March or April, there was 7 months between BSG S4.0 4.5) why don't they just start dividing the shows up into 10 episode seasons?

On a seperate note, there seems to be a good deal of the main cast involved in the commentaries. And Gary Jones isn't doing any commentaries. ;)

Battlestar Galactica practically was split into two seasons in its final run, but that wasn't by choice as much as it was a result of delays due to the writer's strike. I hope Caprica doesn't suffer the fate of split-season box sets.

I like half-season releases... but that MSRP is about twice what would be reasonable.

If I do decide to buy, it'll be the full season release I go for.

I wonder if they are going to do the half season set in the UK or the four episode monthly disk release as they did with SG1/SGA? (Before releasing a full season box set)

I don't buy half season sets. If they don't release a full season set, and the price is not laughable, then I won't buy it.

I saw Syfy advertising the next episode as the "season finale", which was news to me. However, it makes sense now that they're marketing the discs in this way. I have to admit, that is one long list of special features, and it's very tempting but no way in hell am I spending $50 on that. For that price I could buy 3 seasons of SGA at Wal-Mart right now! I'll wait for a price drop or a whole (true) season boxed set first.

I wouldn't count on a whole season set. After all, they never did that with BSG's second season and it certainly doesn't seem like they're doing it with its fourth.

Closest thing we'll probably get is a complete series set after the show ends.

Exactly. A season one set. :p ;)

Half-season sets wouldn't annoy me as much if they were reasonably priced. Which, considering my feelings on the first eight weeks of SGU so far, the price would have to be pretty low to be "reasonable" for this buyer.

But, seriously, imagine if Babylon 5 released split-season sets. How many people would skip season five, volume one, just to avoid Byron?

Ayup. Even if they don't go for a full season set, I'm going to wait for the price to drop a lot first. The most I'd pay for this is maaaaaaybe $30 and that's stretching it. Anywhere in the $15-20 range and it'd be an instant buy.

Only in the US. The UK and AU got full 2nd season sets. Though they never got the 1/2 Season editions for Season 2, just season 4.
