News Guardians of the Galaxy v3 indefinitely delayed

Will that be the last movie he makes?

I tend to doubt that. Especially if he can make them tons of cash. I thought the first movie was average at best so I believe its all setup for him to hit a home run with the sequel. He really is a great director.

He's doing The Suicide Squad movie.
I wonder if he will use some jokes or situations from his Vol 3 script in The Suicide Squad. In fact since the movie seems to be fast tracked if he just didn't take is vol 3 script and change the names of the characters and then he had the Suicide Squad script!

I don't think him making other movies precludes him coming back to Guardians 3 as long as Disney's investors are on board. That was the cause of this, I'm certain.

In a way I feel sorry for whatever director (if any) ends up taking over the film, though if they don't know what they're walking into then they obviously haven't been paying attention.

With oh-so-much irony, I've gotta say I'd be curious to see what Joss Whedon could do with the Guardians.
Yeah, no matter how good a job as they do, they're going to be compared to James Gunn, and since they aren't James Gunn people are still going to be upset.

I believe Disney is still using his script, or at least a version of it, so they probably wouldn't let happen.

Yeah, but Roman Polanski is a disgusting scumbag and anyone who works with him are no better. It says a lot of about the moral decrepit attitude of Hollywood that he had a career after that. Gunn's tweets by comparison are nothing, but that doesn't make Gunn's tweets acceptable, and if we are going to live in a world where this kind of sensitivity exists, then there are going to be lots of talented people that are going to lose their careers.

The thing is, Gunn's tweets are roughly in line with the same kind of humour he has displayed in other movies he's done. Take The Specials, for example, which was written by Gunn. In it, there's jokes about raping dogs and urinating all over little girls. So, Gunn can get away with doing a movie with these kind of jokes in 2000 with no consequences, but tweets with similar material from 2009 are grounds to have him fired in 2018. Disney really has their head up their ass on this matter.

An apology which wasn't even necessary, IMO. While those tweets may not be the sort of thing which should be repeated in polite company, they're no worse than what one might find in the typical Family Guy episode. Which Disney now owns.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" made me wonder about Gunn's writing skills for movie narratives. I noticed that he was very strong on characterization. But for me, the narrative for "GOTG2" came off as a bit weak to me. I think he needed someone like Nicole Perlman. I hope for his sake that he'll have a co-writer for "Suicide Squad 2".

I hadn't really checked into this whole debacle on what happened to Gunn... His tweets were pretty sickening, surprised that anyone of such high visibility professional caliber would take that kind of risk. Still, they were "buried in the past" until these insipid "God fearing" far-right wingers dredged them up.
... after Mr. Gunn harshly criticized President Trump on Twitter, prompting two far-right provocateurs, Mike Cernovich and Jack Posobiec, to search through Mr. Gunn’s social media history.
Jack Posobiec, or "proboscis" as he should be called, is an OCD twitter fiend. Dozens of tweets daily. So when that high visibility criticism of Trump came up, his dear fearless leader, he went on the warpath. So it's not like these tweets were hanging out in a highly public way. He really had to dig to find them.

I do think Disney overreacted and I'd hope that Gunn would have the opportunity to still direct GOTG3. These social issues will dissipate over time. But the movies become an entertainment foundation for billions in the years to come.

I've never used twitter so I don't know, aren't all postings just as public as others or did they somehow break into his private postings?
