Finally got around to seeing this. B+.

I enjoyed it more than Iron Man 3 and Thor 2, but less than The Avengers and the Captain America films (I don't recall how I ranked those films on the board).

The Guardians are a likable bunch, and I want to see more of them.

A friend of mine got creative with her own interpretation of Rocket:

Does anyone else here know anything about this rumor that the sequel will be subtitled War of Kings? Before today I had never heard of it.

I rewatched the movie last night at a local second-run cinema. Finally got a proper look at that flag on the desk in the hospital where Quill's mother died. Missouri, it looked like.

I got to a fair amount of comic book and sci-fi sites, and I haven't heard anything about that.

To my complete surprise I wound up like this movie. I hated the ad campaign, one of the worst ever. But as usual I don't leave it up to ads or critics, I went and saw the movie..Twice! It's a fun space adventure in the complete opposite way Interstellar is serious. I actually recommended it to people. Grade: A-

The soundtrack (Awesome Mix Vol. 1) is currently available for free on Google Play! I'm glad I never got around to purchasing it. :techman:

I hated the ad campaign, one of the worst ever.

I have to say it was the opposite for me. I didn't have much interest in the movie (never paid attention to them in the books; Super wasn't as good as I had hoped, and Burt Macklin in Space? Suddenly the tree and the space raccoon were the least of my worries), but then the ads convinced me otherwise, and I loved it. And a huge draw for me was the music in the ads; I was so very much happily surprised to find that the spirit of the ads was maintained for the movie, the instant Quill started playing Redbone for the title sequence.

Yeah, the marketing behind this one was fantastic and was a breath of fresh air versus the identikit advertising campaigns of other summer blockbuster movies. The music played a huge part in promoting a sense if irreverence and it really worked in promoting what could have been a commercial disaster.

Typical trailers with a brass and horns score and some fade to black shots with "bwaaaawam" sound effects as the characters all look at something fascinating off-screen would have sucked.

You're welcome.

I guess I'm not a party mix kind of guy. I hated all of those songs.

Some of the number crunchers on a movie site I visit are suggesting that due to Mockinjay's depressed OW, $35m less than CatcingFire, that GotG may have a chance to win the year domestically. There are of course a few factors at play but the idea was it would always win the year, now, there is a glimmer of a chance GotG could if legs don't develop for MJ & other films like Exodus:Gods&Kings or Night at the Museum3(last Robin Williams) take off.
