I doubt with the Walkman at hand, it was particularly difficult to get superior alien tech to build that hifi.

The tape and walkman are easy to repair/replace/upgrade. But the content of that second tape is something that's irreplaceable, since it was personal and chosen by his mom, who had since died. He didn't know what was on that tape either until the end of the movie. You could make a 31st century tape for Quill but it's meaningless if you don't know what songs to put on it or the emotional attachment he assigns to them.

I have no idea what any of that has to do with my response.

The Guardians in the movie are not from the continuity where they hail from the 31st century (unlike the originals I remember reading in the 70s). They are contemporaries to the present day Marvel universe in the other films (Thor, Avengers, Iron Man, etc.).

Your post was after mine, so I thought yours was a response. My bad.

I picked 31st century just out of the air, to show that no matter how advanced technology is, it's the content that matters. 31st was a sly reference and nothing more. I could've picked 3100th or the 616th century and it'd be the same point. Yes, I saw the text on screen that said "1988" and then "26 years later." I also know this movie occurs in the present because of that text.

He wants the tactile sensation of the Walkman his mother gave him.

I'm sure there's an alien tech battery in there and never runs out or something.
Or he's been back to Earth but preferred being an outer space outlaw rather than a boring Earthling. Especially since there wasn't much for him there, considering he left at 8, his mother died, and he (assumedly) has no idea who his real father is.

You know, considering he has his own ship, and getting the coordinates for Earth would have been easy considering his "adopted father" was the one who first came to get him.

Hell, he didn't even mention once about wanting to go back to Earth in the movie.

You guys are making the reasoning way harder than it needs to be.

I agree. I'll also say that it's quite easy to imagine that he had the troll in his backpack (and any other Earth things that'd fit) and had heard of Jackson Pollock in any of a hundred different ways before he left Earth.

Apologies since this may have been brought up, but I just watched the movie. My Dad recently got out of the hospital and I finally had a day to myself and someone else to look after him so I checked this out.

So if Peter was 8 years old when taken (if he was born in 1980 and taken in 1988). Isn't he a little 'too Earth-quippy' for an 8 year old kid?

I don't think there are many 8 year old kids who would have the knowledge to throw out something like paraphrasing "Good thing she didn't turn on a black light or it'd look like Jackson Pollock painting in here."

If he grew up on Earth? Sure.... but he grew up with intergalactic bounty hunters. It's a hilarious line, but doesn't really seem like something an 8 year old kid would have since his Earth knowledge froze as an 8 year old.

This is probably my new favorite Marvel movie. Hit on a lot of the notes I like. I was a fan of the characters going in and don't really have any problems with how anyone was presented. I also like that the script didn't go crazy with over-explanations and just went with it.

It's very simple-he must have checked up on Earth a few times, and also surfed the Internet more than once as an adult.

A-

It was a fun movie, but extremely corny at times.

On the plus side, the fx and music were great. It was nice to see a more humorous Marvel flick for a change of pace. The interaction of the main characters was excellent. Nebula was pretty bad ass and I wish we would have gotten a bit more of her. Was not expecting to see Thanos until an after credits scene so that was a nice surprise. The dance off at the end was frickin' great.

Some dislikes.... Gamora's lines were really cheesy and I really don't like that actress. The Star Lord/Gamora stuff felt extremely forced. I thought we'd get more of The Collector. Del Toro pretty much had a cameo role and that was it. Once we got Thanos, I was hoping for a bit more but it seems he was forgotten about. The post credits scene was fucking stupid and a complete waste. Would have been better with Thanos finding the Infinity Stone in the Collector's building rubble or something else with Thanos.

All in all, a really good, fun movie. Nowhere near as good as 'The Winter Soldier' or even 'Days of Future Past', but worth the trip to the theatre.

Gamora had it hard, pretty much being the straight man of the group. That's never as much fun or popular as the more humorous roles, especially in a movie like this one.

There's nothing in the movie really to indicate either way that he has never been back to Earth. I find it hard to believe he's never stopped back even briefly, though. It doesn't appear to be hard. Yondu was able to find it easy enough, and Rocket calls Peter "Humie" at one point, indicating that the galactic civilization at large is familiar with humans. In the comics Star Lord gets back to Earth often enough. He just prefers it in space, and I can't say that I blame him.

He has his own ship and enough autonomy to steal a job from Yondu. I imagine he's been back to Earth if he's wanted to go. He may only go back when he needs batteries for his Walkman. ;)

I like this idea a lot. I don't know what would bring him to Earth, itself, though I can see him flying close enough by to pick up the internet on his alien computer, through satellites. It would give him a connection with his birth planet, without necessitating that he actually land there.

If he did return to Earth, I would imagine it would be to check up on his grandfather. That's really the only reason I see for him going back.

I thought that was a poor choice in the movie... they have a thousand ships and rather than actually trying to attack the invading ship, they just throw up a barrier that doesn't even harm it? This is the might of the Nova Corps?
