I love that phrase! Very descriptive of what seems to be happening on television. Why do we need new medical, legal and copy show each year?

How about more science fiction instead?

You say "seems to be happening on television" as if to imply this is a new phenomena. I'm 50 years old and this has pretty much been TV all my life. There are the exceptions of course, but the bulk of dramas are "Dr LawyerCop" (cop can be interchangable with PI) and have been for a long time now. For better or worse, it's what a good chunk of the TV watching public likes to watch.

Maybe it explains the appeal of Dancing with the Stars or American Idol as they are cleary different kinds of shows and I guess it offers an alternative to "Dr LawyerCop."

It should have stopped at the end of season 4. From 5 onwards they ran out of fresh ideas and just kept recycling old stories.

I've blamed the writer's strike which caused season four to be cut short. That break seemed to kill the creative momentum of the series, and it's never recovered.

I've been feeling the same way for a while now, House has graduated from being Snarky to an out and out selfish Asshole.

But it gets kind of depressing watching a show where the protagonist is just such a colossal jerk. And it seems like it keeps getting worse. In early seasons, he was more the snarky, rule-breaker who still had a heart of gold and usually did the right thing. Now, he's just a selfish, obnoxious borderline-sociopathic hypocrite.

You are expressing exactly -- EXACTLY -- my feelings on the show. I watch it, but, dammit, I'm not that happy about myself for watching it.

Seriously, in a REAL world, how would he keep his job? Yes, his diagnostic skills are incredible, but there is a general rule that "service rendered vs chaos engendered" is an important factor to having a job. How can anyone BE his friend? Honestly? And -- seriously -- how can ANY woman be in love with him? Is Cuddy *that* damaged?
