Green Lantern officially has a green light

It's nice when they cast someone new or fresh for the part, like how they cast Heath Ledger (totally unexpected) for The Joker or Thomas Haden Church for Sandman. I mean, seriously, who saw those coming? And they worked just fine.

I like Mark Strong more than Jackie Earl Haley. He was pretty great in Sherlock Holmes.

Strong definitely looks more the part than JEH. Wonder who the latter is going to be playing though - I got the impression he's still in the movie.

You need a tall villain who can physically go toe-to-toe with the hero. Strong certainly fits that requirement.

I don't know a lot about Sinestro, but Strong does seem more suitable based on what little I do know about the character.

I still wish Reynolds had gotten to play the Flash instead of the Green Lantern. I just can't see him as Hal Jordan, but he would have been perfect as Wally West. Oh well, I'm sure he'll do fine.

Green Lantern director Martin Campbell talks about the film:
Campbell said fans of the emerald avenger will get all they hope for in the film.

"It's a departure for me, I've never done a super hero before," said Campbell, who does have masked-man experience with "The Legend of Zorro" and "The Mask of Zorro" in the 1990s.

"What I like about this hero and this story is it's all about will power," the director said. "It's also about fear and about courage. It's not just a spandex suit movie. He doesn't just put on the suit and fly off and face evil kryptonite and all that."

Campbell said he was intrigued by the intergalactic nature of the hero, who is essentially a cosmic cop reporting to the Guardians, the powerful masters of distant Oa.

"There is a Flash Gordon element to it, this is a superhero who goes to another planet and that's different than the rest," Campbell said. "That opens up a lot of interesting options."

Martin Campbell has said the Clark Kent cameo isn't going to be in the film. I think it's the right call given the uncertain state of the Superman films.

^ I agree. Though I was thinking the other day, if they were going to stick with it, the best thing would simply to have been a photo of Christopher Reeve - as I understand, the cameo was simply Kent's name coming up when they were considering a replacement GL. It didn't have to be a performance, just a pic and name on papers, a bit like the mutant 'cameos' in X2.

But all in all, best omitted really.

Or a newspaper headline about "the batman rumor"

For Batman alone they have to consult with Nolan and Bale and agree on the right tone to set.

Would Warner Bros. even allow such a scene, if Campbell wanted it? I guess we'll never know.

Off-topic: Does anyone think that an animated Green Lantern series is more likely by 2011?

^ Not sure by 2011, but there's bound to be one in the wake of this movie. Seems near enough par for the course for every successful superhero live-action movie.

The Clark Kent cameo is probably out. But...

Its not exactly the type of thing the director would want to confirm ahead of time. Wanting it to be a surprise for as long as possible. Nick Fury in Iron Man was dismissed for a while after is was leaked out.

The are a number of reasons why it won't happen though.
