Green Lantern officially has a green light

^ Plus he's getting a little over-exposed in genre roles. Rorshach, Freddie Kruger, now Sinestro, all within a couple of years?
Well, Ryan Reynolds isn't much different - he was Deadpool last year, he'll be Hal Jordan next year, and it wasn't that long ago that he was in Blade 3.

Deadpool was a relatively small part - and he was unrecognizable much of the time - while there'll be a seven-year gap between Blade: Trinity and Green Lantern.

^ I do tend to agree with the general point though. I think a similar problem might aslo have occurred had Chris Pine won the role.

I'm not sold on Reynolds. His screen personna is often a younger, less annoying version of Will Ferrell. Doesn't really say Test Pilot and wielder of the most powerful weapon in the Universe.

Bradley Cooper was my first choice out of the reported finalists, too, but Reynolds is a better pick than some of the others and he should be good in the part. Having seen him in Smokin' Aces and Fireflies in the Garden, there's a lot more to his range than just goofy comedy.

If I had to compare him to a comedy actor, I'd say Jason Lee (in his Kevin Smith roles rather than Earl Hickey) more than Ferrell.

Fanboy that I am, I'd have liked Nathan Fillion for GL but I also think RR has more range than given credit for and he'll be fine in the role.

Apparently director Martin Campbell shot down the rumor that Jackie Earl Haley was up for Sinestro. Apparently he admitted Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes, Kick-Ass) is in negotiations to play Sinestro.

While Strong is also not amongst my top picks for the role, he is certainly better than Haley in my opinion. My fear is that like Haley, Strong will be saturated in the villain role since he's played villains in a few films consecutively now. However, he's a great actor and he was great in both Rock N' Rolla and the aforementioned Sherlock Holmes.

Does this mean a Ferrell cameo as Jack Jordan is out?
