Green Lantern (2011)

I just read the first two issues of GL: Secret Origin, and I was just wondering if we have any idea if any of the material from it is going to be in the movie? I know they promoted a recent rereleased TBP as the story that inspired the movie, but so far it looks pretty different. I haven't seen anything of his brothers for instance, and they changed who attacked Abin Sur.

No matter how good the actual movie is or isn't, I fear it cannot be half as good as the film postulated here:

Now that would be something fun and different. This whole "embrace your destiny so you can become a hero and thereby punch shit"? Not so much. :p

The movie is based pretty much on Geoff Johns' version of GL, including Secret Origin. The differences in detail - as you note, there's no evidence of the brothers, etc - seem larger until you compare it to all the previous versions of the origin story.

I hit the pause button at 0:43/1:47, just to record the duration of it I could stand, and then I closed the window. I'm holding out that the actual movie will be better than this.

So the official run time is 1 hour 45 minutes.

Wow, this might be as rushed as X-men: The Last Stand.:(

You have that in your signature - what the fuck was that? The X-Men movie they made without Singer?

I would definitely be concerned if it was only 90 minutes, but 1:45 sounds perfectly fine to me.

The vast majority of movies nowadays always feel like they should have had about 20 minutes cut out anyway (ahem, Pirates and LOTR), and frankly I don't think a GL movie really needs to be some huge, epic thing.

Or it might be the perfect amount of time for the movie to tell its story. Keep in mind, the original X-Men movie, Incredible Hulk, and Thor are about the same length, and people didn't seem to mind that.

Yeah. Frankly, I'm getting tired of every other movie being over two hours long. There's something to be said for keeping it lean.

^ There's a balance to be struck. I thought, for example, that the Pirates sequels were far too long but to me X-Men 1 and 3 were too short. But by and large I'd agree that few movies can sustain the interest for over 2 hours. Avatar and The Dark Knight are the only two recent ones I can think of.
