Is this report indicating that some life is being breathed into the project via a cameo by Adam Sandler?? He does have 10 $100m films so a cameo couldn't hurt. However, which hero would his cameo be? That has me curious.
Seth Rogen is in Australia to promote Monsters vs. Aliens and he talked to "The Jono & Dano Show" (via Moviehole) about his big screen adaptation of The Green Hornet.
He told the radio show that Columbia Pictures plans to begin filming in June. It will be an origin story but not in the traditional sense. It'll be unlike every other superhero film out there, Rogen said.
The film will concentrate a lot on the relationship between these two different cats - The Green Hornet (who Rogen says is just "a normal guy") and Stephen Chow's Kato (who Rogen says is the one that does all the superhero stuff).
The Green Hornet, to be directed by Michel Gondry, is scheduled for a June 25, 2010 release.
Funnyman Seth Rogen attended the SXSW Film Festival to premiere his new comedy "Observe and Report" and confirmed that "We have no 100% official Kato at this point" according to Cinema Blend.
Until now "Kung Fu Hustle" filmmaker Stephen Chow had seemed pretty much locked for the role of the titular hero's sidekick, despite his stepping aside as the film's director a few months back. Since then Michel Gondry has taken the reigns on the superhero project.
Rogen's statement does leave the door open for Chow to still play the part.
Gondry doesn't have a lot to say about the project yet, since he joined it roughly six weeks ago, but he confirmed that it was going to be a true collaboration between Gondry, Rogen and Goldberg. "Seth and Evan, they are the writers, but they really listen to my ideas on the movie. I think the story is getting much better and better and I feel like I'm really a part of the process."
We asked him whether the movie might have a similar tone as either of Rogen and Goldberg's last two movies Superbad and Pineapple Express, to which he responded, "I think we're all trying to be a little different than we were before on this project, just by interacting with each other and the producer Neil Moritz adds a different taste as well, so all that will create a new universe."
Since Gondry is probably best known for the unique styles of animation he brings to both his films and music videos, we asked if we might see some of those animated visuals in the comic book movie. "No animation, maybe on the credits but I'm not sure," he said.
Speaking of the classic TV show, Gondry revealed to us that he's saving a spot of honor for the 75-year-old actor who portrayed the trench-coat-wearing crime-fighter on television in the '60s. "Yeah, I think we're going to have Van Williams; we're going to find a cameo for him," Gondry said. "He asked us to. It's going to be exciting."
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Cameron Diaz is considering an offer to play the female lead in The Green Hornet, opposite Seth Rogen.
The magazine says a deal hasn't been sealed yet, but that she is in early talks for the role.
Michel Gondry is set to direct the film based on a script by Rogen and his writing partner Evan Goldberg. Columbia Pictures is planning a July 9, 2010 release.
First he was going to direct and co-star as Kato in Columbia Pictures' Green Hornet, then he was only set to play Kato, and now Stephen Chow has exited the film completely due to scheduling conflicts.
"There was a mutual and amicable decision by both sides to move on," said the studio in a statement. "We are out now to cast a new Kato and remain fully committed to Michel Gondry's exciting vision for the film, which will begin production this September."
Seth Rogen will play the title role in the action-adventure scheduled for a July 9, 2010 release.
The original Green Hornet from the TV series is set to make a cameo in the upcoming film.
Plus they are close to casting the villian for the film but are denying who that villian will be.Speaking of the classic TV show, Gondry revealed to us that he's saving a spot of honor for the 75-year-old actor who portrayed the trench-coat-wearing crime-fighter on television in the '60s.
