Great Moments: Riker/Worf

Star Treks

Third in my series of threads asking if you have any fond memories of scenes between two TNG crew. Just about every pairing had at least one great moment of interaction.

So, how about the two 'manliest men' on the TNG crew? Can you think of some great scenes (or even just lines) between Riker and Worf? I always felt like they had an interesting chemistry with each other (in an acting/character sort of way) - a bit of tension but also a mutual respect as well.

Off the top of my head, I think they had some nice interaction in "Ethics" with Worf asking Riker to help him commit ritual suicide, and Riker reminding Worf that it is his son who is supposed to do it.

I really like the scene in season 2 (can't remember the episode ARGH) when they do Worf's calisthenics program together and Riker has to yell "AT EASE" several times to get Worf to calm the hell down. It was a cool to see Riker's calm under fire interacting with Worf's tendency to get carried away.

"Ethics" is probably my favourite interaction between the two.

Another I always enjoy, if only for the cheesy hammy acting on Michael Dorn's part, is the exploration of the Yamato in "Where Silence Has Lease", culminating in Worf going crazy over the multiple interconnected bridges.

Riker and Worf were pretty tight. It never got much attention, but yeah, a lot of scenes stand out for me, especially from the second season on.

Worf lets Riker in on his holodeck exercise program, which he doesn't do with anyone at that point.

Worf has Riker's back when he transfers over to the Klingon Bird of Prey.

When Riker is "leaving" to command the Ares, Worf asks to leave the Enterprise to be by his side.

The scene when Riker catches Worf making the model ship, which is often edited but is just great.

Riker takes Worf as his right-hand man in the wargames in "Peak Performance".

The above-mentioned scene in "Ethics"...Riker is the one Worf confides in.

There are others, but yeah...a lot to suggest Worf and Riker were pretty tight.

I liked in the Outcast, when Worf was all "I know what you're doing", Riker's all "No you don't", and Worf's all "It's cool, it's cool, I'm comin' with ya, I've got your back."

Great list of moments, especially SchWent. Probably one of the more underrated character relationships in TNG.

Yep, they did have lots of good moments. Of all the character interations, I always thought the Riker/Worf dynamic made the most sense. To Worf, Riker isn't just his superior officer, they are simpatico, in that they both are men of action.

I love how Riker refuses to perform the Klingon ritual suicide when Worf fears he will never walk again, in "Ethics." Riker really gave it to him.

I also like how Riker, more gently this time, in "The Enemy" takes Worf to task for not donating a cell sample to save the dying Romulan, pointing out the enmity between humans and Klingons, and that if their people hadn't let go of their bitterness, they could never have been comrades.

And there's a funny little exchange in "The Emissary," where Worf pretends to be in command of Enterprise. When Picard and Riker come back, Riker asks him, "How did you like command?" And Worf replies, deadpan, "Comfortable chair."

Red Ranger

What about Parallels when Worf returns to the Ent from the Batleth tournament and Riker lures him into the party ambush? I like that interaction between the two of them.

First Contact (the movie) - "Tough little ship." "Little?" Great moment. For a couple of reasons.

Not a great movie at all, but I like the little moment in Nemesis where Worf and Riker are in the hallway fighting the Remans and Worf says:
"The Romulans fought with honor"

Then there's this look on Riker's face showing that how profound this statement is coming from Worf is not lost on him.

That moment harks back to the episode The Enemy for me. It makes me think of the coda when Worf comes to Riker's office and they have the conversation about the Romulans. Nice touch, thanks for reminding me. :)

It's interesting to note that most of the memorable moments between Riker and Worf occur in season two when they really developed that brotherly friendship. I was always kind of disappointed that that went by the wayside in later years in favor of the Worf/Picard, father/son thing.

I think that if it had been in season two, Sins of the Father would have had Worf asking Riker to be his cha'DIch. By that point, Riker had been established as having more experience with Klingons anyway. Still, I prefer Picard in the role. Would have been nice to see both relationships developed in the later years.

I agree, Riker as Worf's cha'DIch made more sense, story-wise, by whats been established by the first two seasons. Nowhere before had there been a demonstration of why Picard, of all people, was the most suitable.

I was kinda dissapointed they waysided that relationship, indeed.

I will always love that part in "The Hunted" when Riker and Worf take out Roga Danar. Theres a fight that has spilled out into the corridor and riker and worf are on their way. The doors open just as danar gets a phaser. Worf has this really funny "oh shit!" look as he tackles Riker to the side of the lift. Danar gets distracted by something or other and Worf literally peeks out the side of the lift to see if its safe. He then charges and body checks Danar to the ground with Riker right behind. Worf then holds the phaser right in front of Danar's nose and upps the setting. Its my favorite fight in all of Star Trek because it doesnt look like it was choreographed that well and looks like its a bunch of people wrestling around. Anyway, i think its a great moment.

My favorite scene between Riker and Worf occur in Season 1's "Justice" -

Worf: "If I were to make love, it would have to be with a Klingon woman."

Riker: "How about plain, old-fashioned sex?" :D

I think it was "Ethics" for me, Frakes/Dorn obviously got along on and off the screen, famously.
