Hi i,ve just purchased the book called Star Trek 365 TOS and i have to rate this book for any TOS fan .? The book is 365 pages long and talks about each episodes from the 3 seasons, some very intresting facts about TOS and some great pics as well .

One of the great facts about TOS that i did not relise is that mr nimoy,s character spock was going to have red make up for his skin tone but NBC rejected it as he looked to dark on black and white TV,s .?

This book is a great buy for xmas and is well worth the money !!!!

I agree, great present for yourself of any Trek Fan. Paula Block is a treasure in the world of Star Trek.

This is actually been known for quite a long time. I remember reading about this back in the '70s, but I can't recall exactly where it was.

I just received this today (won it in a contest). I'd tell you how it is, but the husband swiped it and is reading it as I sit here typing.

In an interview in February 1983, Robert Block informed the interviewer that original Spock was to be a red-skinned Martian who plugged himself in daily into the ship's power for sustenance. A committee of science fiction writers took a look at the concept and addressed this issue. IIRC, some of this is divulged in the 1968 book, The Making of Star Trek, and other interviews in the 1970's and 80's.

My Star Trek 365 copy arrived last week and I must say that it totally made my day when it did. On second thought, make that year. :D
It's an excellent book, beautifully illustrated and with a lot of interesting insights into the production of TOS. It's both a fascinating read and a visual feast.

Honestly, though, after all this time and considering how the series and its making has been picked apart, is there really anything truly new left to learn? And if there was, at this point, would it even be true?

Still, I'd rather reread the lesser known stuff (for the casual fans to discover) than to read how Scotty was 99% James Doohan and 1% accent...

That's the greatest problem for me as well. How much in this new book is stuff I don't know? How much is misremembered or outright wrong? But there are still little known facts to find such as Conan composer Basil Poledouris appearing as a red shirt, or coming across things I hadn't seen before (such as those found in Dave Eversole's "Unseen Elements").

Those are the sort of things I look for. These days, in general I avoid the books published for the "casual fan."
