I saw the spoiler and thought, "damn, that's cool!"

The Norse God suits are straight out of Marvel's "Thor," don't you think?

Now that I think of it, the writers gave us a clue in the way the Raiders stride (leaving the chamber after declaring that Rodney would be killed if the device wasn't working in an hour,) reminded me of this other species.

Thumbs up.

The only points I take away from the episode is that I felt that they made Rodney dumb towards the beginning to show off how awesome Daniel is. It seems like the writers are slavish in their devotion to SG-1 characters sometimes at the expense of other characters.

I don't think Rodney was meant to look dumb just smug and arrogant. He resented the fact that someone was coming to check his work. In his supreme self-confidence, he felt that since he had checked the database and found nothing that there must not be anything to find. He basically tells Daniel as much as when he reminds Daniel that he has already searched the database.

Perhaps you are right. It just seemed to suddenly put Rodney in a negative light the minute Daniel started to work with him. It seemed odd because the two never really worked together before and are from two completely different fields.

At least it wasn't nearly as bad as it was on SG-1's "The Pegasus Project" which made Rodney seem like a complete boob when compared to SG-1.

Much better episode than other recent ones!

Oh, even if they get a new gate, what happens to the control crystal that allows them to dial Earth - is that gone now, or can it be replicated?

Well, its in the DHD, so unless the DHD got destroyed, I'd say its fine.

^If it has been destroyed then there may still be a solution.

Ancient technology is very similar to Ori technology. In "Camelot", Carter and Kvasir were able to manufacture a control crystal capable of controlling the Ori Supergate - which allows for intergalactic travel. It's not too much of a stretch to suggest that with their full access to Asgard technology they would be able to make a new one.

Plus, they also have the extra programming in the SGC's gate computer that O'Neill added in "The Fifth Race".

Noted.

However, in terms of the ongoing storyline, it might be interesting if the crystal was not so easily replaced, and Atlantis was stuck for a while with not being able to gate to the Milky Way - even if gating in still worked.

I'm wondering where they are gonna get a gate, I guess the Atlantis gate isn't any different than the other ones, it is simply the DHD that is different. I guess in that case they could just pick up a gate off of a barren world.

There's a dozen or so Pegasus Stargates still floating in space left over from the Gate Bridge. Not all of the Stargates they harvested were spacegates.

Not bad. Pity I spoiled the twist on the aliens for myself, damn ye Internet with your seductive spoilers and my pitifully weak will!

I found Rodney to be more annoying then usual in his dealings with Daniel. How they managed to miss the device with the flashing red light is beyond me...

I rationalized it because I expected the shocking reveal, whatever it may have been, to be the cliffhanger. Incidentally, it reminded of something I noted in the design of their ship, which I'll talk about after tonight's episode when everyone's caught up.

I missed the first part when it originally aired so I've watched both parts this weekend.

First Contact gets a great big KREE! from me. Good interaction between Daniel and Rodney, Todd is always an interesting character and the effects of the Atero device were certainly unexpected. Cool premise for a device.

I would have liked more backstory as to what Daniel is up to these days. He just kinda beams down in a pair of jeans like it was casually Friday at the SGC.

Good episode, I thought at first the actors werent getting along, because Shanks was all smiley and sounding enthusiastic, but never actaully looked at McKay until late in the episode, like he was going out of his way to ignore him.

I guess it was intentional, but it still came off as weird.

The ending reminded me a bit too much of another mid season cliffhanger where the gateroom blows up.

I'm just glad theres another episode, and this wasnt the season finally.

WITHOUT A DOUBT, THE BEST EPISODE OF ATLANTIS, EVER

Ok, maybe that's pushing it a tad, but it would certainly be in my top 5. OUTSTANDING episode, that had me hooked the whole way through. Now I know why we had to sit through crapfests in recent weeks... so that they could pay for First Contact!

I love a good old fashioned Ancient puzzle, so really liked the light bulb bit.

Janus' lab activating... nice!

The extreme close up of the Daedalus exiting hyperspace

Hyperspace window opening at sea level :eek:

The new aliens were great, even though I stupidly watched that spoiler clip that showed who they really were. It's so nice to see some technologically advanced aliens for once, not just the same old Wraith storylines, or primative village of the week, every episode. The alien personal shield was one of the coolest effects Atlantis has ever done.

Very nice seeing Daniel back, although he's still too "cool", I think he was a lot more effective when he was slightly geekier, but that's just personal preference.

The bit with the Wraith ships exploding was awesome, as was Todd's reaction. That guy is a fantastic addition to the series.

Oh and the Stargate exploding scene at the end was one of the coolest dramatic scenes in the whole series. Wonderfully cool and exciting, and the cliffhanger was AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH in a :techman: way. Nice final shot, though the editing could have been better.

Can't wait for part 2. I hope it's as good and exciting.
