dont you think that cliffhanger was a bit too dramatic? Couldn't the actor just have said "Gowron is a changeling." Much simpler and shorter

Meant to emphasize that a Changeling has managed to infiltrate the highest echelons of power on a major planet, and evoke equal parts disbelief at "how did this happen without being detected sooner" and fear of "how many others have been replaced and we don't know/for how long"?

He doesn’t? He’s been in the middle of a war with them for a season at this point. And you think he doesn't know who their fucking leader is? How does that make any kind of sense?

EDIT: Maybe my timeline’s off on the Klingon-Federation war. But the point is, the conflict with them has been brewing for the entire season and Gowron already visited the station. So how could Odo possibly be unaware of just who he is?

I thought it did a great job conveying shock as to what was happening. Season 3's cliffhanger ended with the Changelings being everywhere. Season 4's cliffhanger ended with a changeling being high up in power, maybe even the leader. The stakes were raised.

This, had he just said "Gown is a changeling!" a large part of the audience would have had no idea who he's talking about even with him appearing at the start of the episode.

At this point in the franchise Gowron had appeared in 7 episodes over 6 years and 2 tv shows. I can say with certainty that not every audience member knew who he was, his name was an incredibly easy detail to miss or forget if people watched his episodes at all. Not everyone was glued to the tv every week to catch the newest episode of TNG and DS9.

Might have worked better without actually saying Gowron, just like, "The head of the Klingon Empire is a changeling." I get they might have been trying to throw both in there just to make sure more casual viewers know what's going on.

Everyone who is a dedicated Star Trek fan who watches every episode religiously several times. Lots of potential fans who just tuned in a couple of times are going to be turned off if they are left wondering who a minor character is.

A franchise that caters only to existing fans is dying.
