Just watched TUC yet again and thought I would like to see how many posters out there think that it is a racist remark to what is supposed to be an unracict/humanistic society.

Huh? Wha?

I've no clue what this thread is about.

Is "tailpipe" now a racist term in some online urban dictionary? I'm confused.

Yes, absolutely.

"The thing's got to have a tailpipe" is the racist remark in Star Trek VI. You found it. Congratulations.

WELL duh...I am askink if you thought it was a racist remark personally...hell if you admitted it on an internet message board....

How the hell is "tailpipe" racist? It's a part on a car. Tailpipe. Exhaust pipe. If there's a different meaning, that's news to me.

I thought it was a harmless reference to how kids used to stick a potato into a car's tailpipe to make it backfire? Seems something an engineer/mechanic would say, no matter the century.

Of course, ST VI was deliberately peppered with seemingly racist comments culled from old movies ("Would you like your daughter to marry one?", "Guess who's coming to dinner?", a comment about Klingon stench, and even the African American actor who'd played in "To Kill a Mockingbird"(?) repeating a line from that movie, but aimed at Klingons). But I didn't make any connection with "tailpipe". It's a mechanical term, isn't it?

Okay, at the request of the origina poster, I'm closing this thread. There was a mistake with the poll. Thank you!
