regemet, your bridge did not show up. Please repost it.
I always thought any TNG-era ("Titan"-era) Oberth refit should have the "Defiant" style bridge by fadmvulcan from "DS9: Dogs Of War".
Well, the TNG-era equivalent of the Oberth was the Nova from Voyager...

That is, incidentally, one of my favorite bridges. A good simple circle updated to the TNG era, and there's nothing stupid about it.
I've always felt like in bridge layouts like the NOVA one, there were not enough "forward facing" seating position/console. I know the idea of forward facing is not at all important in space, but the captain is central seated facing the main screen, and it's not easy for anyone to communicate with him if their voices is coming from position lined on the outside wall and mostly from behind him. I loved the Sovereign-class bridge for example, where all the key positions are kind of surrounding the captain's one closely, with only non-essential ones lined out on the wall.
I think in a command&communication position like a starship's bridge, everybody working should always been able to make eye-contact with the one in charge when necessary, and looking at the angle on the Sovereign-class bridge that's easily possible also for the two personnel standing on the right and left console (one of which was tactical, I remember Worf standing there...). A more circular but better design is probably the NX-01 one, but there small dimensions are surely helping in keeping all close together, but again, with the exception of the Helm, everybody is looking straight at the captain.
ouch it's late, better get moving :P

Those views are what I had to construct the 3D model, sorry there's not more. I have no idea what the original is/was but hope someone reading this thread does.![]()
I do rather agree with you - I really liked ops and tactical in Voyager - but I very much dislike the freefloating consoles all over the Sovereign. In my mind, in Star Trek at least, the captain should be able to swivel and look directly at every station on the bridge., without others getting in the way. The Sovereign is a bit of a confused mess with no easily-appreciated structure. Same to a certain degree with Voyager and the totally out of the picture Science and Engineering stations. In my mind the bridge needs to have a certain easy-to-visualise shape to it, and with the ones that are wider than they are long, we often just lose the sides.
the June 2009 issue of American Cinematographer magazine has 2 photos of the Kelvin on page 30.
One of the bridge with no actors on it and one of the lower deck corridors without actors.
