Got any Bridge "Porn"?

And I say WOOT as well! While checking out the other pictures in that gallery (it's a GOLDMINE baby!) I spotted the destroyed armada. And hey, what's in the foreground of it? An NX class ;)

And in the background, it looks like there's a classic TOS Constitution type ship with what seems to be a third nacelle. But that's for another thread.

You know what really strikes me as silly? That all those screens on the bridge only display one thing. Haven't they ever heard of MFD's?

One could make the exact same complaint about TOS, the movies and TNG. The background screens have always showed the same thing. From TOS up till Enterprise. They always have the same blinking light sequences and the same video loops. The only exceptions are closeup shots where primary characters are using them to bring up a visual aid for the viewers.

I think he's trying to say that the screens seem to display only one screen's worth of information, unlike most modern OS which allow tabbed or otherwise flippable views which allow multiple functions or programs to be running and monitorable.

My counter-argument would be that like the current military, a given console is optimized to do exactly what it's supposed to do for that operator on one layout. On an AWACS plane, a dozen radar operators would each look at one screen with everything that person needs to look at, manipulate or report on. There is no reason for multiple views as the configuration shows everything that is needed. On a starship, someone's console isn't a workstation or office desk; it's his one place where they would fly the ship, fire the torpedoes, or report on how the warp core's doing, and nothing else.

Ha made other bridges as well? I'd love to see those :(

So would I.

According to the interview I read (wish I could remember where now), there were three passes at the Enterprise Bridge: one VERY faithful to the original but updated slightly, one that was very original, and one "middle of the road between the two" (which was the one chosen).

I just uploaded a 3-D cutaway of the USS Sutherland bridge on my Flickr site, enjoy. The url is on page 1 of this thread.

Serek: The Jenolan's bridge is way too messed-up. Its too all-over-the-place. WTF is up with the additional station in the separate room to the extreme right side of the image?

If you're going to have a small transport, have everything in one room a-la Kirk's Enterprise or the Oberth-Class, or even the Defiant-Class.

If necessary or remodeled by private ownership, I could see a Ready Room or even perhaps an easy-access 'all-purpose' "Senior Staffers' Lounge" (Replimat / Conference-Room in-one, with a small adjacent 'Head'.)

That's by Sean Richardson, and it's seriously not cool that someone cut the credits off of that image.

I agree it looks like his work except you're thinking of Sean Robertson, aka seanr. His site is http://www.webolutionary.com/

:techman:

He used to be SUPER prolific...I still have the "backdoor link" to his storage file bookmarked.

Too bad life seems to have caught up with him...he hasn't done anything in years.

I don't blame Serek...I blame the producers. They're the ones who slapped in a few panels, a console, and a transporter pad and named it a control room...
