Well, diamonds *are* forever...

No, that's the internet.

So be careful kids, your hilarious strap on pony halloween costume of today will kick your butt when you're old and running for office.

God I hope I live long enough to see this generation running for office, the stuff they will dig up on them will make for some great laughs.

I'm of the opinion that anything in the public domain is fine. Still, if a person asks to have their image taken down, I believe it is in the best interest of all involved to respect those wishes. Of course, it's better to get permission in the first place, but that's not always possible.

I'm mindful of copyrights. It's amazing how much people *think* is in the public domain really isn't.

And I get permission before I post.

I have a friend who would take a zillion photos of a night out and then post every single one of 'em on FB. And tag them. And I'd have to follow her around the morning after de-tagging myself. I mean, I am old but, hell, I do have *some* pride left.

I finally got my point across by doing the same thing to her.

She hasn't posted & tagged without asking since. ;)

This generation already is running for office but it isn't as hilarious - well, I guess, it depends but so far it's been ill-thought out blog posts and decidedly TMI tweets mostly. It's kind of weird when you find out all those private things about a state parlamentarian.

Imagine a female president of the United States with a raftload of duckface Myspace photos in her past. Imagine all the parodies of her official presidential portrait.

One of the things I hate about Facebook is that even though I'm no longer on it, there are pictures of me posted there and I have no say over that and no way of even knowing which pictures are up. You're almost better off staying on the site just to keep a closer watch on things.

In terms of strangers, I don't think anyone should ever take a pic of someone to mock them later, whether with one person or an entire forum. It's just mean.

Agreed!

The photographs were definitely one reason why I left facebook. Before I went, though, I tried that tagging yourself as trees and random objects trick to give the FB recognition database some more varied data of me before I deleted my account. God knows pictures of me are still around on there, but the only people posting them nowadays know to clear it with me first and not tag me.

Uggghhh. Good for you!

Hahaha awesome!

That's one of the things I dislike strongly about Facebook. You can't really delete your account.

Actually, you can. Linky

Well, you can technically delete it, but they'll even tell you:

Be aware that Facebook may still retain information from your account in their databases (they have been unclear about whether they do this). Even though it may never be given out in public, authorities can ask for this information.

^ Perhaps. But in the end, the quantity of people with access to your information is now smaller, I'd call that a bonus.

Besides, nobody is ever (that I'm aware of) actually forced to use Facebook in the first place. So if their information policies are that bad, just don't use them.

Eh... it's like stopping the secretaries from seeing your embarrassing pictures, but now the CEO has them to do with what he will. It's fewer people, but it's still bad.

They're not forced, but Facebook likes to change policies all of the time. You could sign up when they had no such policy, and now, with all your data already there, they can modify the policy, and now there's nothing you can do about it.

Seeing the usernames of the people who have selected "totally whipped" in the poll is absolutely hilarious.

Yeah, but the information is still out there, available to them for whatever use they deem fit, and you can't even access it.

An argument for never joining facebook in the first place if I ever heard one.

I joined back when it was called "the facebook." I'll admit it's a little awkward not having one now when EVERYONE has one, but I haven't missed it once.

I wish I had never created a profile at all, lol. :(
