Well, tomorrow I leave for a comic convention in Omaha, Nebraska where the lovely Jewel Staite will be appearing.

:adore:

There's some other people too, but I don't care.

^Back off guys.

Besides, she's more than capable of defending herself.

Trekker, you're in for a treat. She's an affable, congenial lady who is very easy to be around. You'll enjoy her appearance.

What kind of pilgrimage? It reminds me of the religious ones...it is some kind of chrisitan thing?

Well, Awesome Possum might claim her as a religious deity though.

Have fun, Trekker. It sounds like fun :)

I hope you can have a wonderful moment like I had a couple of years ago -

Enjoy!!

An add for that was on my Hy-Vee Circular this week. I thought to myself, I bet I see this on Trekbbs, and I was right.

I heard about it through a pamphlet at a local convention I went to about a month ago and made the plans to go right away, Omaha's only about 4 hours away so I figured it'd be something cool to do.

It's Jewel Staite!

Anyway, I am typing this from an Omaha Econo Lodge, overall I was quite disappointed in the convention it was pretty small, sparse, with not a lot of visitors. Not much in the booths, hell the one I went to a few weeks ago in my hometown was bigger with more to see, but maybe there will be more tomorrow? It also seems that Jewel was not making public appearances today but doing the panel and the VIP dinner so I should get to see her tomorrow.

Drive up was pretty good, got lunch, walked around the convention and took in one of the features/shows they had available which was a couple of guys talking about how to start writing. Sort of interesting an nice, personal, interaction with the gentlemen as it was a small group of attendees. Got dinner now I'm sitting in my hotel room.

As God as my witness I will get to experience Jewel tomorrow! Oh, something I found odd is that this evening VIP ticket holders of the con got to see a "screening" of Super 8. Myself, I had a screening of it too, by going to the theater to watch it. Review in the relevant thread coming soon.

Omaha seems like a fairly nice place, overall, with a bit more active downtown area than I would expect.

Well, the whole thing was an interesting experience. Friday was mostly boring, as I said up-thread, since Jewel wasn't there and the convention was actually pretty small. But Saturday was a whole other story.... sort of.

My buddy and I were first in line for Jewel's signing, he had her sign his Firefly box set I had her sign a a promo photo available as well as the Firefly comic-book with Kaylee on the cover.

After that buddy and I went to the Omaha zoo -there not being much else at the comic convention to take part in- and got back in time to sit (well stand against the back wall) of a Q&A session she was doing answered some question on her career, Firefly, Serenity and Stargate -among others- it seems like she still hangs out with at least Nathan from time-to-time and perhaps even other members of the Firefly cast.

Some stupid guy in the crowd asked the following question, "How do you feel about hugs and [something else]?" and managed to get a hug out of her! Much to the chagrin of her husband who was also in the room.

After the Q&A session there was a photo-op back downstairs which my buddy and I managed to be third and fourth in line for (respectively). And.... : sigh :

My turn came up and she asked me how I was doing again (from the earlier time at the signing) and I said I was doing well, and next I feel her hand sliding across my back at waist level and holding on to the other side of my body, I placed my hand on her shoulder and gave what passes for a smile for me for the picture. It's not a great picture, I'm not a good picture taker, I'm not a smiler, plus the nervousness of standing next to a cute celebrity who has her hand around me.

Given the money I spent on this trip between the gas, the hotel, the tickets, the autographs, the picture totally worth it!

Unfortuantely the picture of me and Jewel was a print-out from a digital camera and between being put in and removed from the envelope already shows signs of wear/scratches in the ink so luckily I've got it in a frame under glass now (as well as my other items.)

But, I enjoyed it and Jewel is just something else to be around in person and seeing her there... and having her hands on you.

Her husband seems like a nice enough guy but due to the laws of malehood I am required to hate him.
