Godzilla, Kong, Gamera & Co.: The Kaiju Mega-Thread

Have a slight affection for the character from childhood. I lived in Japan and had an "action figure" (Two points of articulation!!!!!!)

I was more of a Shogun Warriors kinda guy.

I had every one of the robots on that page. I didn't have any combat vehicles. I even had a few of the large figures - Godzilla, Rodan, Raydeen, and Mazinga. I wonder what they would be worth now?

I never knew it at the time, but that was a weird toy line -- taking giant robot and kaiju figures from multiple anime series, Godzilla, and even Toei Spider-Man's Leopardon, and mashing them up into a single toy line. (But didn't Transformers start similarly, as a mashup of two or three unrelated Japanese toy lines? Or am I thinking of Gobots?) Good grief, they even had a sub-line of vehicles that included the team vehicles from tokusatsu shows like Gorenger, Kyodain, and Inazuman.

The title was kind of clumsy too. I guess they were riffing on the popularity of James Clavell's Shōgun, the perception that it was just some generically exotic term for a Japanese warrior, but shōgun in modern usage is just the equivalent of "general." Kind of hard to have an army of warriors where everyone's a general.

Godzilla and the other regular figures are in triple numbers, just the arm of a SW Godzilla has recently sold for $160 (the arm was, of course, in good condition). Rodan is quite rare, and one recently sold on Ebay for $950, and even incomplete figures can get you upwards of $500, a complete one in good condition would get you upwards of a grand.

I called the number, and it takes to Monarch's hotline where you can report a Titan sighting and sign up for text alerts, and it also has instructions for what did do if you encounter a Titan.

Yes, the footage is for a new ride that Takashi Yamazaki himself created (the footage, not the ride). Though I have a feeling that marketing added the Southeast Asia angle after the announcement that Japan, China and South Korea are working fast towards a free trade agreement.

I'm a little confused on something with the last couple Monsterverse movies, how exactly are used to supposed to say Godzilla x Kong? Is it Godzilla ex Kong, Godzilla Kong, Godzilla and Kong, or Godzilla cross Kong?

Apparently it's silent. For the first one, the announcer in one of the trailers pronounced it "Godzilla Kong."

Although they're probably homaging the 2002 Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, where the "against" (tai) was written as "x" in the title. There are actually three films that are called Gojira tai Mekagojira in Japanese, and they differentiate them in how the "tai" is rendered in print -- as "対" in the 1974 film, as "vs" in the 1993 film, and as "x" in the 2002 film. (In English they're G vs MG, G vs MG II, and G Against MG.)

Prepare for a super nova in 2027

I can understand and respect that for many Godzilla fans, these movies aren't their thing. I really liked them. Sure, they are a lot more mindless entertainment but I had a lot of fun with them. So I'm definitely looking forward to more.
