Godzilla 2014: Rumors, Pix and filming

I read that half way through making the movie they decided to rescale Godzilla. Which is why the head looks so small in some scenes.

Hot damn he is beautiful!!!

I don't remember where I saw the headline, but apparently Japanese fans are calling the new Godzilla "fat".

"Pigzilla" has been thrown around too. Also comments about his small head too

The picture above came from the art book and will be what people see on the big screen

The head of the second one seems better proportioned. I haven't seen either of those two in stores--who offers them?

I don't have any videos to share, so I'll just present CG renders employing a few different polygon based models.

This one is a mesh by Scott Ayers based upon the "Final Wars" design. I reshaped the head and created a "procedural" surface to depict Goji's distinctive bark-like scales.

This is Valandar's "Kaiju" model sold at DAZ intended as a more "generic" giant lizard figure. But I modified it to look a bit more like classic Godzilla, transplanting spinal plates Gareee made for a completely different model. I experimented with "masks" to make only the edges of the plates glow as though preparing the infamous "atomic breath".

Sincerely,

Bill

The first one is a photo manipulation that was shared across tumblr, as a joke about Godzilla's head size being too small. Here's the original:

It's a shame that movies these days are so expensive that they all have to embrace commercial tie-ins all over the place. This movie is trying to re-establish Godzilla as a serious franchise, something that would be a hard sell in America because we've rarely seen the darker and more dramatic films in the series, except in toned-down and edited versions. So giving us tie-in commercials that treat Godzilla as a joke (like this one and the Snickers commercial), even before the movie has come out, don't help set the right tone.

Don't get me wrong -- there's nothing wrong with having a little fun with Godzilla in advertising. The old ad of Godzilla playing one-on-one with a giant Charles Barkley is still fondly remembered. But it would be better if such ads could come out after the movie rather than before.

Since the idea is to promote the movie it's make more sense for teh commericials to come out before, during and after the movie.

The fiat commercial has reminded some people of the scene in the 1998 American Godzilla movie where he swallowed the cab. For those people out there who think this new movie is a sequel to the 1998 movie (and its not) that is not a good association.

Yeah, the one for the Snickers ad really evokes the original 1954 design. :techman:

Sincerely,

Bill

I really like that design too!!I like the design for the new movie although from certain angles the heads looks strange.
