Go away, Denise Crosby.

I think its hard for fans to understand actors' career choices. But young actresses can make a lot more money making movies than in these TV shows and they know that if they don't branch out while they are fairly young, it will be too late for youth-obsessed Hollywood fame.

Claudia Christian left B5 because she wanted to do a movie - she just wanted part of the season off but the hard-nosed agents couldn't reach agreement in time and then I think everybody blamed everybody else. Terry Farrell chose to leave DS9. Michelle Forbes didn't want to be tied down and it became hard to get her to do guest slots let alone commit to the Kira role in DS9. Andrea Thompson left B5 because she was being offered a lot of guest roles on other shows that she had to keep turning down. Caitlin Brown left because the narn make-up was giving her terrible skin problems.

I would have preferred all these actresses to stay around for longer than they did but I think being abusive about their career choices is hilarious. Fans don't own them! The fact that Crosby returned shows a level of commitment to the franchise (or desperation) that wasn't often seen on the other shows (whether due to the actresses or the producers' sour grapes who knows). Caitlin Brown and Michelle Forbes both agreed to do an episode to give the characters closure and the final episodes of TNG had greater resonance because Crosby and Meaney reprised their roles. Credit where credit is due.

Hey waitaminute JarodRussell I was just looking at the thread about Michale Dorn and Jonathan Frakes and Temis the Vorta said Frakes was a fat ass and you wondered if that would get a warning from a mod if it were said about a board member. That's odd.

Well lately I'm somewhat pissed about people's attitude in these forums.

Check your own attitude. Ive never said anything personal about you, all Ive done is try to discuss the issue with you. Ive liked this thread because Ive heard different opinions from people, like the one Pauln6 wrote just now, its not just someone insulting me.

Lets just check out what youve bought to this thread:

Strange, this thread would already be locked to death had the OP said he hates Chase Masterson and that she needs to go away.

They do, and it's pretty stupid. And the mods run a weird double standard.

So it's allowed to bash someone if he/she is never going to read it? That's pretty cool, I guess.

And then someone who hates shouldn't start whining if he gets hated back. ;)

Why? Because they deserve it? And it's not any less stupid just because they never hear it.

Let me clarify: I'm going now to another message board that you aren't a member of and start a hate thread just about you, Nardpuncher of TrekBBS. Of course it would be more fun if I knew your real name. ;)

Dude, they don't owe you anything, and they don't have to justify their actions, and it's just a TV show. If it means so much to you that you hate people for it, then please get a life.

It's more like: I have to tell you that some celibritiy is an idiot and a failure, and then you come in and also call me an idiot and a failure. Then it's all fair. ;)

Well lately I'm somewhat pissed about people's attitude in these forums.

Youve not even mentioned Denise Crosby or Tasha Yar! All youve done it dole out insults or spoken about something vaguely off topic. Theres maybe two semi useful points. You know I enjoyed reading Pauln6's comment because it was well thought out, well written, respectful, and mostly because it gave me another perspective. Thats the value of these forums, to present different perspectives, thats the value of discussion in general. If youve missed that then maybe its your attitude that needs adjusting, so are you going to say something about Denise Crosby and how her leaving changed the show or how much you love her etc. Or am I just to expect another insult?

Dude, you're the one who started the hate thread to begin with. And your thread against Denise Crosby isn't the first one, either. Didn't you, only recently ago, start a thread about how annoying Brent Spiner was?

Does anyone else hate that woman?
Then she failed miserably
I liked YE, but I didnt like it because of Denise Crosby
Anyone else feel like that, cos I really, really hate her.

I'm just worried about your personal health, because what I read here doesn't seem healthy at all. What did those guys and girls do to you?

^^ I think many people can get a wrong idea about how angry other people really are when it's something written like the internet.
If you looked at what I said on facebook about the finale of Lost some of my friends would think I'd gone off the deep end.

You're the one who said he's "pissed" about people's attitudes in the forums...how much should we read into that? Should we worry about your health?

I have no problem with Denise Crosby so that aside it does seem a bit weird that there's no problem writing not very nice things to put it mildly about let's say Brannon Braga or Rick Berman but that there's a problem writing such things about an actress.

That aside I think Denise Crosby probably did end up regretting her choice to leave the show earlier and that's why she wanted to be involved in the show later on. Of course it was not a wise decision however she could not have foreseen how hugely popular TNG would become (and how much the writing would improve) nor that her own career would never really come off as she probably hoped. I don't see a reason for hating her for making a decision which in hindsight was probably not a very good one.

More likely that the moderators aren't hanging around... on the weekend.

This.

Does anyone else hate that woman?

No.

This is a foolish and immature question, and devoting a topic to it is a waste of life and bandwidth.

And this.

I apologise for not being around today to deal with this, and so for the intense thread derail in the interim.

I have absolutely no problem with a thread discussing whether Denise Crosby is a good actress in TNG or not, whether her choice to leave the series was right or not, or indeed any other of the many variations of these themes.

It would be nice to do this with a modicum of respect but there are limits to what mods can enforce in that regard as I don't think any member was flamed or trolled by the OP.

Anyway, since the extensive thread derail has made any discussion impossible to continue in this thread given that polluting context, I'm closing this thread.

The topic can be restarted, but I would please ask that if it is, it's done with some memory of how derailed this thread became, so as to avoid it happening again. Phrasing the topic in a less inflammatory way would be a good start...
