Give me an F, give me an I, give me a R, give me an E, give me a D...

Should have been fired?

It does, however, reflect on the IMAGE of her job and thus on the integrity and image of the school. Would you want YOUR child's teacher to be an Playboy?
I wouldn't care. If anything I'd probably be jealous of my kid. It's not like the centerfold is pinned up there in the classroom, either, and I certainly wouldn't be whipping my copy of that issue out for the kid, either, but I'd still trust her to be professional and do her job. That would be my only concern - how she does her job. The image excuse is bullshit, and to be quite frank someone at that school is a fucking hypocrite because it's pretty obvious they were looking through their copy of that month's Playboy when they saw her. Probably fapped to her, too.

Well, the school just has an "image" to maintain and further teachers are paid through tax dollars. She likely had a contract through the school board which likely included "image" provisions or something of that nature in it.

Is it entirely right that she got fired over this? Perhaps not really. she should be allowed to do whatever she wants so long as it doesn't effect her work in the school; but I can see why the school would drop her over something like this. It's probably just not something they wanted connected to the system. They probably know that those pictures will circulate quickly which may cause problems in the school enviroment in regards to authoirty or decorum.

It's almost part of the tradition of Playboy that you get fired after posing for them. In this day and age, it's rather quaint.

Shelly Jamison was smart and submitted her resignation the day before her pictorial was published.

Re: Give me an F, give me an I, give me a R, give me an E, give me a D

No she shouldn't have been fired. How ridiculous!!

I'm sure all of those hypocrites looked at the pictures very carefully before firing her.

Re: Give me an F, give me an I, give me a R, give me an E, give me a D

Choices have consequences. I don't blame the school for their decision.

Re: Give me an F, give me an I, give me a R, give me an E, give me a D

Honestly, it would make the parent-teacher meetings more fun. ;)
Dad: Hey aren't you Miss May?
Teacher: Uh...I don't know what you're talking about.
Dad: Yeah, yeah, I know those ti....uh that face anywhere.

Re: Give me an F, give me an I, give me a R, give me an E, give me a D

Where were all these hot teachers when i was in school?

Not born yet. :p

Also, regardless of what you might think of teachers being obligated to not do anything degrading, they AGREE to not do it. So she broke her word. Doesn't matter if it's right or not. She broke her contract.

I totally agree with the school's decision. I mean is that the kind of image you want associated with cheerleading? Somebody's who's hot and doesn't wear much clothing.

Then it would be wrong if there was any such provision in her contract. Goes back to the same puritanical bullshit that a lot of us are ranting about if they even thought to put that in a teacher's contract.

Oh, and women who do this kind of stuff generally don't consider it degrading. Hell Ovidie was a femnazi out to "expose" how degrading porn supposedly was to women and she found it so liberating that she's one of France's most famous porn stars now. Nina Hartley also comes to mind as a porn actress who will vehemently defend the porn industry. But then there was a discussion about this not all that long ago in Misc. Would you really care to repeat it?

I agree with the Firring.

Re: Give me an F, give me an I, give me a R, give me an E, give me a D

I believe most teachers' contracts include a clause about conduct befitting a role model. I don't know the specifics of course.

I sense sarcasm, and I love it. :D

I don't think she should've been fired but she was pretty stupid for not figuring out what would happen.

Re: Give me an F, give me an I, give me a R, give me an E, give me a D

She should have posed for Hustler instead...

Re: Give me an F, give me an I, give me a R, give me an E, give me a D

We had a similar case in Australia last year.

In both cases I do not think the teacher should have been fired. The only ways children could have possibly been harmed by the photos would have been

1) By listening to the nasty gossip of adults/teenagers who should keep their nose out of other people's personal lives
2) Or by viewing magazines that adults should have made sure they weren't viewing.

Still doesn't matter. If in her contract it says she can't say the word "elephant", and she agrees to it but then says it, then she's outta there.

Re: Give me an F, give me an I, give me a R, give me an E, give me a D

Yes, because logic should have no place in the contract enforcement in this country. It's not like teachers don't already go into as much debt as every other university student but take much longer to pay it off because the only jobs their degrees are any good for have shitty pay and benefits, just so they can work long hours and be treated like babysitters instead of teachers. No, they should have absurd clauses thrown at them too, so their potential employers can watch them squirm as they mull over having a little money for food and rent or remaining unemployed out of pride.

Re: Give me an F, give me an I, give me a R, give me an E, give me a D

I found some PG pics of her from her modeling profile (which states she won't do nudity :wtf:). I wonder if this publicity will help jump start that career.

And here's her MySpace video blog if you want to hear what she sounds like.

Re: Give me an F, give me an I, give me a R, give me an E, give me a D

Every day I wake up thinking it's the 21st Century, and every day I'm reminded it's still the 1950s.

I hope she sues them and makes a fortune. I also hope that the cheerleading squad poses for Playboy en masse to show their solidarity. As soon as they turn eighteen, of course.

And it's certainly interesting that this was done to her by the losers who didn't make the team. Goes to show what kind of people support this sort of "moral" behavior....
