Give me an F, give me an I, give me a R, give me an E, give me a D...

Should have been fired?

That's a matter of opinion. In the school's it was degrading and I can understand why.
If we were intended to be seen naked we would all be born that way.

Re: Give me an F, give me an I, give me a R, give me an E, give me a D

I'm just a primitive caveman, and your modern ways confuse me. So, just to clarify, is cheerleading that thing where scantily-clad young (mostly) female students jump up and down a lot to emphasize their bountiful and heaving "spirit" and flash what's under their skirts while spread-eagle in front of a large audience?

Because clearly, this woman is grossly unqualified to teach those kinds of skills after appearing in Playboy.

Re: Give me an F, give me an I, give me a R, give me an E, give me a D

I mean a cheerleading coach basically is there to teach girls how to prance around like whores anyway, so what's the problem?

Her personal life is her own life and they have no right to fire her if what she was doing is legal. I hope she sues.

I love how the super-conservatives love fapping to that idea. Unless of course it's something that affects them...

Is there a problem with upholding a legal document or did that issue get lost? Are you saying liberals can't respect the law?

Buddy, if you think I'm a "super-conservative" then you really need to stay out of TNZ!

No, I'm saying conservatives have a hard-on for the idea of laissez-fair economics to the point that rational thought goes right out the window. To them, the contract is more important that how reasonable its actual stipulations are. That's why the idea of "at will" employment makes them blow a wad in their shorts. I don't know why human misery and economic hardship turns them on so much, but I've noticed a lot of fapping from them whenever something like this happens.

Odd how people hold teachers to a higher standard than any other public servant or professional. Can you imagine a doctor being fired for this? A clerk at City Hall?

These are the people that are teaching our kids, so yeah I'd expect a high standard. If they are going to make school mandatory then they better darn well have high standards. It might be different if school was voluntary, but it isn't. Obviously I wouldn't care if this had happened at a college level university or something.

Right, but the clerk who's has 3 kids is just expressing her sexuality when she does it? People jump to impose high standards on teachers but refuse to live up to the standards themselves. My friend teaches 3rd grade, and an older teacher in the district got in trouble for going to a bar and drinking; of course, she only got turned because the parents themselves were at the bar. An extreme example, but I'll use it to illustrate my point. It doesn't matter that the teacher posed in playboy, the student's shouldn't be looking in there anyway (but they will, hell, I did at that age). If there is an issue, it lies with the parent's and how they want to raise their kids.

That said, the harsh reality is that, yes, teachers are held to a higher standard. That's why Facebook and MySpace profiles are scrubbed, and people have to walk on eggshells. She should've seen this coming.

They get much more vacation time than most other professions, though. That's a huge plus.

This is a common misperception. Most of us are hired on 10 month contracts, which means that technically, we are unemployed for two months out of every calendar year (even though we know we have a job at the end of those two months.) After the first year in a district most of us have the option of having our pay spread out over 12 months, which of course results in a smaller paycheck each month.

Personally, I don't equate unemployment with vacation.

Plus, to keep our credentials current, we are expected to participate in professional development/continuing education during the summer, usually on our own nickel.

(Sorry to get on my soapbox - especially since I've never posted in here before - but this is a pet peeve of mine.)

And yes, most districts have a code of conduct or moral turpitude clause of some sort. My district would have released her without giving it a second thought.

What makes it even more stupid is that teachers pretty much get the shaft when it comes to pay, too, compared to every other profession that requires a 4 year degree.

Re: Give me an F, give me an I, give me a R, give me an E, give me a D

The starting salary for a first year teacher in my school district is $38,500, which jumps to $42,500 in the second year and increases thereafter with COLA's, tenure and additional education. I'd hardly call that "getting the shaft".

Well, the starting salary for a programmer is usually around $60k. Programming may require a different type of mind than teaching, but I don't really think it's harder. Quite possibly the opposite.

Not here. I don't think we've ever hired someone for 60K a year. Grads here are generally lucky to get a starting salary of 30K/year. But then the cost of living is less here and we aren't the East Coast, Seattle or California.
