Gillian Anderson's The Fall

JanewayRulz!

Vice Admiral

Never heard of this series until I noticed a youtube video devoted to it.

Today I binged on 2013's season 1/ series 1, unfortunately or fortunately ;) there were only 5 - hour long eps to go thru .

For everyone who gets BBC Two, series 2 is supposedly coming this year.

Basically Gillian is called in to review a murder investigation when instead of merely clearing a politico's family she discovers links to 2 other murders. While she follows the trail, we watch the murderer not only go about his kills but go about his every day family life.

I enjoyed the 1st series and look forward to seeing how this unfolds in series 2, even though on the surface it may seem like "just another cop show".

Anyway, for you Netflix users, series/season 1 is on Netflix as we speak.

And here's a teaser for series 2

What a great teaser! :bolian:

Hubby and I watch this last year and we both really enjoyed it. It was infuriating that they stopped where they did and God knows how long it will be until season 2 airs, or reaches Netflix so we can watch it.

Very tense and dark, very well done. I loved how they'd juxtapose what she was doing with what the killer was doing at the same time. Especially the one where she was having a one-night stand with a stranger at the same time the killer was simply at home being a good Dad with his family. A little moral ambiguity there.

It's a very good show and he is a very creepy opponant. I liked the wider story abour corruption and crime within Belfast as well.

I agree, and I wonder if they are going to move the "scene of the crimes" just out of the city or the county or the country.

If they move too far away, then I am going to miss this cast of characters as we follow "Gillian" as she follows him

(Love that teaser for season 2 that I posted, where against our best observations, she's doing just that.)

I like it. The ending (or non-ending) was shocking at the time. It felt more like a mid-season cliffhanger than a season finale.

I'm looking forward to Series 2 when it arrives on Netflix.

Season 2 will finally arrive at Netflix next week.

It will premiere 1/16/14 for those of us without access to BBC 2.

SWEET!!

Hubby and I stumbled upon this last year (or year before??), or thereabouts, and we both thought it was fabulous. Can't wait to see season 2. Woot!

Superb show. I missed it when it was on the BBC but I have access to US Netflix so I watched season one on there a few weeks ago. Gillian Anderson is absolutely brilliant in it. Can't wait for next week!

The second series is probably even better than the first!

Really? I thought S1 was great but S2 was utterly pointless and added nothing to the original story. I've a suspicion that S1 was meant to end with Spector killing himself or being killed but that they opted to do a second one after it proved so successful. I hope they don't do a 3rd or, if they do, it's a significant improvement.

I must say, though it was nice to see a Belfast-based crime thriller that owed virtually nothing to the troubles. A lot of it was filmed quite close to where I live and a friend played a mortuary attendant in both seasons. So I suppose from that POV, I should welcome a 3rd season from the trade etc it will bring into town.

The troubles always seemed to hover at the periphery of the action, never really dominating but often having an effect on why/how things happened.

I don't see how they can have a third series given
he's now probably dead, and if not definitely banged up!

I'm two episodes into the second season. I feel like I need a cold shower after each one, which can't be good for my water bill.

I haven't started watching the second series yet, but if it doesn't end with the son of a bitch locked up I don't think I can go a third.

Well, I strongly doubt they could follow the same storyline for a third season regardless.

I thought the show was pretty good overall. I probably would have enjoyed it as a single season of 12 episodes rather than two of six, since I felt like I was forgetting plot points between the seasons. I also felt there were some tangent plot points that were left hanging (and one that obviously became disproportionately important out of nowhere).

To me, the first season was stronger. It was following the killer's life while also following the detectives piece things together. The second season was more of a drawn out endgame. But both were quite good. Obviously, by the end, the thematic points were stated quite explicitly. The story is far more psychological than just a police story, which I think helps it stand out, along with the atmospheric music and silence (with the possible exception of Broadchurch, I can't think of anything that uses absence of sound quite so effectively).

Wow. :bolian:

I hate and love binge watching.

Hate it because once I start I'm awake unto 3 am to finish. Love it because I don't have to wait a whole week between episodes.

I suspect the plot lines "left hanging" are their way of teasing the viewing public into wanting a 3rd season/series.

A refresher course on season 1. ;)

At least a review of the "kewl" moments.

And where the Rose Stagg storyline came from.

That plot line AJ felt came out of "nowhere" wasn't so unfamiliar to me since I watched the 1st year/5 eps just 8 months ago. I also liked how Paul's choices in regards to that unimportant plot line came back to haunt him.

I enjoyed :bolian: this second season and appreciated not only the relative lack of gore but the sense of suspense and danger given what we knew about Paul's tendencies.

I do wonder if it goes for a 3rd series, if it will stay in Belfast since Stella will probably never have sex again since its so dangerous for her partner. :p

I also wonder where that storyline with the pathologist is supposed to be going.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=py9zReQzrIs

I could see Rizzoli pulling this on Isles... but I don't think it would have ended in quite the same way.

[yt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=py9zReQzrIs[/yt]

Is this relationship just an example of "any port in a storm" as Stella seemed to suggest when she talked to her supervisor? Is it just a way to capitalize on the sex side of selling the show? Or is it the start delving into her past, and that dream diary that had FORGET underlined on so many pages? (Speaking of that diary... am I the only one who thinks "forget" or "daddy" is her password?)

If there's a third season, I'm sure I'll be binging it as soon as its available just to see where this hanging plot lines may "fall".

Talking "The Fall"

An aside... I like that this year they seemed to explain where the title came from.

Blouwers? ;)

And being even sillier.

Closer?

[yt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULUN0Lld9OU[/yt]

The plotline that felt hanging to me was the mob hit storyline and some police corruption stuff I seem to fuzzily recall. Also, wasn't there a suicide in there?
