News Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire anticipation thread

The man responsible for some of the best episodes chimes in. He really should have been in involved in some capacity.

Oh for heaven's sake Joe . . .

I'm sure if they felt the need for JMS's input, they would have asked for it. Let's also not loose sight of the fact that this movie was made with people that were part of the original movie's production. I mean they already have Dan Aykroyd involved, what better consultant do they need?

Honestly, I don't know if he really meant it that way (though you'd think a veteran writer would be immune to a case of "it came out wrong"), and I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but at face value this does have something of a bitter egotistical undertone to it. It's a little disappointing to see, especially in response to what seems like genuine praise.

"Hey, I didn't say anything nasty. I'm just saying that it would literally have been a nice feeling if I got a phone call at some point. It didn't have to be about Ghostbusters. It didn't even have to be from the team making the movie. I just like getting phone calls." ;)

I really liked the previous film and it didn't really need the old cast all. I'm happy they're making more.

"I've gotta stop leaving this thing on vibrate!"

I love Ghostbusters. But this trailer leaves a lot to be desired.
I agree and I didn't really like "After Life" which was Ghostbusters beat for beat with a younger cast. I don't believe Hollywood ever could make a true sequel to Ghostbusters. The Real Ghostbusters seem like it had loads of stories to tell with the concept but the movies were... repackaged remakes.

After Life was good until they brought back the old cast in the last act.

This all reminds me of how Men In Black 2 just took the script from a 2 part episode of the animated series, stretched it out a bit longer, and made it into a movie. I'd be interested to see if the same thing happens here.

And see the reaction when nobody involves in the show gets paid for it.

Yeah, I could maybe see this kind of response if the movie was specifically based on the show, but it wasn't, so this really feels like kind of an inappropriate reaction to Kumail Nanjiani's tweet or X or whatever the fuck we call them now.

Beat for beat? Did I miss the part where the kids wrecked a hotel ballroom? Or when Callie made Ray put another three mortgages on his house to fund a tech start-up? I don't remember Gary having a recurring gag of locking himself out of his apartment . . .

Have you went back and rewatched the Real Ghostbusters on Prime? It’s not that good. It’s not bad. But it’s not great. Much worse as an adult than as a kid. And maybe the Ghostbusters guys didn’t even remember JMS had worked on the cartoon.

Yeah.. I have fond memories of TRG as a teen, but as an adult, it just doesn't hold up, especially the later seasons where Slimer was the focus.

I haven't watched the show in many years but I do remember even as a kid, I didn't like how the show became more focused on Slimer in the later seasons. I was never a big fan of the character...aside from that one episode where he explored the inside of the ecto-containment unit (which may or may have not be during that period).

I keep meaning to go back and watch again because I had such fond memories of it and didn't know until years later that JMS had worked on the show, but I do worry that it hasn't aged well in certain aspects.
