Jason Reitman to direct. Continues in the 1984 Universe of the original films with Murray, Ackroyd and Ramis.

Ivan Reitman will produces. New Ghostbusters will be passed the torch from the previous team.

This will have no connection to the Female-led Ghostbusers film from 2016!

Sony is finally smartening up.

I feel about this the same way I felt about the 2016 movie. We don't need this.

That said, my biggest peeve with the remake was starting all over from scratch, so at least this one avoids that. I hope it's good, but...we'll see.

I'd argue it's more needed than Star Trek Discovery ;)

A Ghostbusters continuation could expand the universe of the first two films, but also play up modern technology and more importantly modern comedy. Especially at a time when guys like RDJ, Pratt and Rudd are killing it with the comedy in the Marvel films.

Awesome! This is exactly what they should have done in the 2016 film, but for some dumbass reason Sony wanted to reboot the damn thing. I'm disappointed that they're ditching the cast of the 2016 film (I'd prefer a merging of the universes), but I'm still happy. I'm sure Dan Aykroyd will at least cameo in this.

Meh. Who cares. And I say that as someone who saw it a WHOLE lot back in the day.
But, I would rather have something new than dusting off old ideas where the pitch is "Hey, everyone, remember THIS?!"

And most kids will reply, "No, because we're not fucking old nerds."

I love how whenever a continuation for something is announced there are always people bitching about how Hollywood doesn't have any new ideas or nobody cares about this old shit. Then those people go watch Doctor Who season 37 and The Last Jedi, or geek out about the upcoming Picard show or Avengers: Endgame (the 22nd film in the MCU and itself based on a 27 year old comic).

Not sure at this point I really need to see almost 70 year old Ghostbuster's and with no Harold Ramis or Ivan Reitman(has his son EVER done a full on comedic film?)

I knew it wasn't going to happen but I wanted another film from the 2016 crew. They had a good crew (especially Holtzman), they just needed a much better script. Alas.

Probably the best part about this announcement is that the 2016 version of Ghostbusters is going in the trash, where it belongs. Sony was smart to go this route than risk further brand damage from that version. I mean it flopped in theatres. And that YT dislike ratio was legendary.

Clearly the 2016 version was one audiences didn't want or care for. Unfortunately the stench of 2016 GB will make the 2020 version a harder sell and a deeper abyss to climb from.

Well, I'm interewsted in this. I'm not that into the GB franchise, but the first two are decent movies, so I'd watch a sequel to those, as opposed to a sequel to the movie that starred several comedians I've disliked for years and had a director who exclusively makes comedians I can't stand.

To be clear, I was fine with the 2016 movie being an all female team of Ghostbusters, I just didn't like the specific people the movie cast for the roles, or the director who I only knew from a particularly unfunny, disgusting comedy I couldn't even get through.

It might be good. If they get at least Murray back as the lead you know it at least stands a chance. Then again the 2016 movie had some great talent as well and that didn't work out so you never know. My gut feeling is if they do it will only be for a cameo or small role and all the potential for hope will go out like it has for the new Terminator movie when I found out Arnold and LInda Hamilton are just going to have small roles in and Cameron is only producing it.

I’ll also believe this when I’ve seen it. I didn’t hate the 2016 one, but I didn’t get it. There were bits that worked, but a continuation could have been better.

Maybe they could merge the universes. It worked for highlander.

Awesome! This is exactly what they should have done in the 2016 film, but for some dumbass reason Sony wanted to reboot the damn thing.

That version was a reboot because there were legal issues preventing a third film from being made. All of the surviving actors would have had to agree to do one, and Murray consistently refused. I don't know what changed his mind this time.

One of two things:
  • Murray isn’t involved
  • The almighty dollar
