GhostBusters 3 is Finally Being Made. (2020 Release)

Even with the heavy, thirty pound 'gold' prop proton pack and its batteries and moving parts, to realize that a 'real' proton pack would weigh about twice that much, and our heroes wore them all the way up the stairs to the forty-first floor of Spook Central is certainly a reality check.

Haven't you seen hoe fit the Ghostbusters were? They could beat schwarzenegger and Stallone while wearing the proton packs and running up the stairs ;)

One of the things confirmed in the article is the fact that the kids are directly related to Egon with them being their Grandfather. I never realized it until after the article pointed it out, but the girl does have a resemblance to Egon.

So, that being the case... it's 36 years since GB1, and Carrie Coon (the one playing Egon's daughter Callie) is 39. Are we going with a) this is Egon & Janine's post-GB1 daughter, and they just never mentioned her in GB2? Or b) Egon had Callie in his pre-Ghostbuster college days (almost certainly thanks to Venkman's wingman skills), and only found out about her existence post GB2?

Not sure if they really care about continuity like that. I o no ly saw GB2 like years ago... so is it possible the baby was in daycare? With Egon and Janine not fully embracing parenthood yet

Why does the character have to be the exact same age as the actress? The daughter could have had her daughter in high school, or been herself the result of a high school hookup. Unless something is stated either way in the film, all we need is that Egon's daughter was unseen previously, and has her own kid(s).

Was it acknowledged that Egon and Janine were a couple? I really don't remember the details of the movies very much, but seems like it'd be a major detail.
She acknowledged fully it in the first movie and could barely contain herself from tearing his labcoat off him. Egon, on the other hand, didn't seem much interested in anything outside spores, molds and fungus. IIRC, she also seemed to have a thing for Louis Tully there for a while (in the second movie) when they were babysitting the kid... badly.

Yeah, tons of actors play characters significantly older or younger then themselves. Carrie Coon is still young enough that her character could easily have been born after GB2, and that feels a lot more likely to me than trying to convince us that he had a kid the whole time and just never mentioned her.

Ok, it's been awhile since I've seen the first movie, so I guess it's a detail I simply forgot over time. I'm guessing the daughter must have been born after GB2, possibly after having moved away from NY to retire and raise a family. And while he may have retired, you can't fully take the tinkerer out of the scientist, and he may have kept tinkering around and coming up with new things to keep himself busy. I think Iowa was mentioned somewhere, which is quite a ways away from NYC, so that's got me curious.

That surprised me. Not a delay but that long of one.

Wondering if in one or two months Studios will have to fine tune their schedules again. Whenever theaters are open again people will be happy to see whatever if finished and ready to be released. Not sure they will want to worry about traditional ad campaigns.

I guess they are expecting the second half of 2020 to be top heavy if everything is getting pushed back. It could be something to do with the merchandise too. They can't produce the toys to coincide with the movie due to restrictions

It's the right idea, though. Because of the shutdown, even big tentpole movies are pushed back, and to release them all in the second half of the year is just gonna drive up the competition between the movies. Also, movies that are in production right now will also have to reschedule their releases to accommodate for the production delays (just the other day, Variety reported that The Batman might have to be pushed back from its June 2021 release date). So it only makes sense to spread the releases out.

Yeah, not surprising given the situation. They might not be afraid of ghosts, but they'll have to stay inside for the time being ;)

Disappointed, but not surprised by the delay.

I've noticed that some of the later delays like Black Widow, didn't even do a date at all.

It's probably a combination of not knowing when theaters will open again, and trying to find a good time to release it. I wouldn't be surprised if other movies that were already set for the end of the year are delayed to avoid competition. Things like Godzilla had a fairly clear run but now they have to compete with James Bond and many others.

Not much of a surprise. With the Olympics already delayed July was looking like another washout anyway. I wonder how soon we can expect other July move releases to get postponed. Or hell, what about Comic Con?

Another thing I'm wondering is going to happen is might there be some movies postponed to 2021 simply to make sure there is something for 2021? With almost if not all movies currently in production being suspended until after the crisis passes, there's going to be a gap in movie releases in 2021. Even after the crisis passes and theatres reopen, it's likely going to be slow business in the first few months. If there's going to be a gap with no new movies anyway, it might as well be in 2020, which is essentially a write-off at this point anyway, and move the tentpole releases to 2021, which is going to need major movie releases at this point.

Then again, aside from the postponed movies that do have release dates, what else is there currently still holding onto the original release date? A quick look only reveals about ten or so, and with half of them being in July, they may yet be postponed anyway.

From what I've seen, we're actually still in the fairly early stages of the pandemic, so I don't even want to guess when things are going to get completely back to normal.
