The response from the crowd (25-30 people, as could be reasonably expected for a Wednesday afternoon) would be best described as "minimal".
No one seemed particularly interested with the new movie. From what little they showed of the movie, it didn't look particularly bad or good. If anything, I would describe it as unremarkable.
Agreed and thats probably the worst omen you can have for a new release. If the trailers aren't even exciting the intended audience for the film then this will most likely be a dud. You're saying something that's the most repeated observation about this film: "not particularly interested." Who knows--maybe the multiple controversies surrounding the film will spark interest, but this film is not highly anticipated to any degree. Compare the widespread interest generated from the teaser and main trailers for Dawn of Justice or Civil War. There's not a response anywhere near that.
Scott Pilgrim Versus the World, anyone?
You mean one of the most fun movies of the past decade?![]()
I get the feeling that the new "GHOSTBUSTERS" has become one of those movies that no one wants to see succeed, regardless of whether it's good or not. I've seen a good deal of this kind of mentality in the past few years.
I actually think the movie will do well at the box office, but I have a hard time seeing this as the franchise builder Sony wants it to be. It's obvious that the media and probably the public have already decided that this will be a box office bomb. I have seen too many lousy films described by others as "great" and great films described by others as "lousy" to blindly accept word of mouth anymore.
it's a fun movie but its box office performance was the equivalent of a wet fart in church.
I really think Holtzman is going to be the breakout character in this. Every clip I see I love her more and more.
And Bill Murray endorsing it and appearing in it really makes me believe this is will be good. Never got the impression he did something he did not want to do (except maybe Ghostbusters 2...)
There's a lot of shady stuff floating around regarding Sony's handling of the old cast in regards to the new movie, as well the poor response to the trailers. There are rumors of NDAs preventing anyone from speaking of the new movie in anyone other than overtly positive terms. Female posters online have claimed their legitimate gripes about the trailers have been deleted from Sony's digital platforms to better play up "the criticisms are purely misogynistic" angle.Apparently they threatened potential legal action if he didn't.

That's ridiculous if it's true. It's a little scary if they're putting out NDAs just to make people say nice things about the movie. I know I was one of the people speaking out against sexism in relation to the movie, but it would make all of that harder to take seriously if they really are deleting non sexist complaints. There's a lot of shady stuff floating around regarding Sony's handling of the old cast in regards to the new movie, as well the poor response to the trailers. Sony must be hoping all the controversy-generated attention translates to ticket sales, especially considering the lukewarm-at-best/hostile-at-worst response. Of course, getting a lot of pre-release attention and anticipation does not a hit movie make. Scott Pilgrim Versus the World, anyone?
