Ghostbusters 2016: Talk about the movie(s).

. I'm also more open to listening to Feig promote than Aykroyd because of Feig's track record over the past decade or so -- that is, the ability to back up his promotion. "Trust me, 'Spy' will be great!" And behold, it really was great.
Wow, can i interest you in some magic beans? Feig should sell Bibles with such convincing quotes as that....

"The new Bible will have 12 hilarious Apostles in it. And their gonna be women!"

Come on, you know he doesn't mean he blindly believes anything Feig says, he just said he liked Spy, a movie that Feig promoted heavily. Since to Cyke, he has a proven track record, he's more likely to trust in what Feig has to say.

I don't know, I'd raise an eyebrow at a bunch of dudes who had radioactive backpacks and were firing highly destructive beams all over the place.

Plus we're never really shown how much time has passed from the beginning of the movie to the point where the EPA shows up. I haven't watched it in a while, but doesn't he imply that people are starting to wonder if the Ghostbusters are just putting on a light show and causing people to hallucinate?

I could imagine a couple of "clients" complaining about this when they discover how much their being charged for removal.

It's fairly implied it's only been a matter of weeks. Between the continuing investigation on Dana's problem and most notably Louis's party he invites Dana to at the beginning of the film and we see near the end of the film.

Abby character vignette. Ok this is actually pretty good, I think the clips in here were all pretty funny, with the Patrick Swayze clip, and the syence clip being my favorites. (Yes, I misspelled that on purpose, just watch the clip.)
EDIT: Io9 has collected vignettes for each of the ladies. These videos are way better than any of the trailers have been.

Cold hard cash ;)

Speaking of Aykroyd singing the films praises. I was talking to a friend the other day about this, and we both agree Sony hasn't really done themselves any favors by attacking the people who dislike the idea of this film and implying they're all Trump Supporters (Apatow) and/or sexist.
Wow. So typical. Doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out which side of the political aisle they're on. It's also very unprofessional and will alienate many people from seeing it.What morons.

The last trailer released showed some updated effects so I might check it out on streaming justfor that. But I'm certainly not plucking down money in a theater for bad comedy made by a narcissistic studio.

Major studios who put out films don't want to be given loads of free press because... why?

Their what is going to be women?
Their submissive brides.

It's not like Feig is going to say anything other than that though is he? He won't say "well, it might be shit".

When I picked up Ghostbusters on Blu-Ray I actually paused to read the newspaper headlines and magazine covers during the montage. We have no idea how much time passes between the Ghostbusters securing their loan and the subsequent feast for the last of the petty cash, but all of the newspapers and magazines show a date of October 1984. If you look out the windows of Dana's apartment the trees are still green. At the end of the movie, the trees are still green. So, there couldn't have been more than two weeks that the GBs had been in operation (also validated by Jeanine's line, "All I do know is that I've been working two weeks without a break...")

You know, Spy has a 94% rating on Rottentomatoes. That doesn't mean critics think it's better than 94% of all films, just that 94% of critics who reviewed it happened to like it above a lukewarm level. Critics who study film as their dayjobs, critics who have written dissertations and studies and entire books on film criticism, which has been around for decades. The 94% who liked it, liked it after plenty of consideration. The 6% who didn't like it, I'm sure, have every valid reason and analysis within their training to dislike it.

It's totally your prerogative to join the 6% who don't like it. That's fine and dandy. But 94% of critics who are otherwise separated from each other usually aren't bamboozled by a single person, not by that large degree; hell, it's in their interest to disagree with each other because that fuels competition. But they don't.

I liked Bridesmaids and Spy. I didn't like The Heat. But I definitely liked his TV directorial work: Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Parks & Rec, the US Office, Mad Men, Weeds, and obviously Freaks & Geeks. Yes, I do believe he has a good track record, but I shouldn't have to say that as justification. I'm explaining it to you as context for where I'm coming from, which is, honestly, a courtesy I shouldn't be giving you, because nothing Feig does is ever good enough for you, ever.

Saul, kitten, you've spent years and this entire thread bemoaning that you're being persecuted for having a different opinion on this movie than many others on this thread. Well, our opinions on a separate movie are different. You don't see any double standard with your sarcasm? You like what you like, and I'll like what I want. You can be skeptical of the movie and keep posting your doubts about it, and you're definitely not alone in this thread with others are also welcome to dislike the movie and express those concerns. That's what a message board is for, after all.

But for the love of God, get over yourself. Get over the idea that people who like what you don't are idiots. Stop holding grudges with those who disagree with you or make something you dislike. It is, quite frankly, an incredibly stupid approach to life; your blood pressure can't handle it. Stop being so bitter to the point that you have to resort to insulting sarcasm. Rise above that. Even if it's Feig or Apatow or Sony insulting fans, if you think you're better than them, then prove it by rising above insults. Jesus Christ.

"The new Bible will have 12 hilarious Apostles in it. And their gonna be women!"

Lastly, and for the love of God, if you're going to assume people are idiots, at the very least please know the difference between "their" and "they're."

I don't know how wide spread it is, but Ghostbusters is being rereleased to the theaters for 2 days.

I saw the previews for that and then a trailer for the new one. I think I'll just watch the original again and forget about the rest. Seeing them side by side killed off my interest.

Er......Dude, chill. I definitely don't think anyone who likes this is an idiot.

My sarcasm was harsh (as usual) but I'm not calling you an idiot and I don't hold that opinion against anyone here. Obviously you took what I said very much to heart and have clearly exploded. Take a look at what you wrote, it's not my blood pressure you need be worried about. Maybe take a step back and don't take everything I say as gospel. It is a BBS board after all and we don't know each other personally.

Again, I don't think i'm better than them. If you want to paint that kind of picture of me, that I hate everyone and feel above them in some way then go right ahead but that isn't the case.

Anyway, you seem pretty irritated by my words and maybe something more that I'm oblivious to. Never really had anyone here lose their shit so much with me for something I said so if you feel the need you can discuss it with me more elsewhere but let's try put it to bed here on this thread at least as it's messing it up for everyone else.

Fair enough, it's been a while since I've seen the film, so I accept being corrected.

That's still plenty of time for some people to be filing complaints that perhaps the GB are using hallucinogenics to make people believe they are seeing ghosts, perhaps enough complaints for the EPA to take notice.

I won't lie. Hearing Bill's endorsement of the film fills me with a bit more hope.

Pity Annie and Ernie didn't get the chance to talk at all, and Dan barely didn't get much out either.

I love how Bill's just straight out with it.

I really think Holtzman is going to be the breakout character in this. Every clip I see I love her more and more.

And Bill Murray endorsing it and appearing in it really makes me believe this is will be good. Never got the impression he did something he did not want to do (except maybe Ghostbusters 2...)

I went to one of these screenings yesterday with my brother, the first time I've ever seen Guostbusters on the big screen. After the movie, there was a short segment (about five minutes) with clips and behind-the-scenes interviews for the new movie. About two-thirds of the footage was carried over from the trailers. The response from the crowd (25-30 people, as could be reasonably expected for a Wednesday afternoon) would be best described as "minimal".

No one seemed particularly interested with the new movie. From what little they showed of the movie, it didn't look particularly bad or good. If anything, I would describe it as unremarkable. Nobody really laughed at any of the jokes, which was particularly noticeable to my brother; he noted the muted response to the preview in comparison to the '84 movie, during which people laughed constantly during the screening.

The new movie just looked so lame, I don't think a different cast could help it, male or female. The one highlight was Chris Hemsworth, who did the one thing in the preview that I found legitimately funny. I think his character is also supposed to be a male model, as at one point he holds up an 8-1/2x11 glossy of himself, shirtless and playing a saxophone. That was the one and only time I laughed (or heard anyone else laughing) during the preview.
