Only 11 Days to go till release. I wasn't watching the SuperBowl pre-game but it seems they aired a new GR:SOV tv spot. It along with the other two that are now airing are in the link.

My favorite tag line is in the second spot.

No Cape.
No Tights.
No Face.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

I like how the Ghost Rider seems to be having fun at dishing out his pain to his attackers in this clip. It shows a bit from the drilling machine sequence.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

The obligatory "further sequels" discussion news. Yes, should GR:SOV prove a hit Nic has expressed intrest in doing another installment with the same directors.

Talk of Ghost Rider 3
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance helmers Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor have confirmed that talks have taken place about a third film in the series.

Neveldine told The Playlist that lead actor Nicolas Cage has expressed interest in appearing in another sequel, and hinted that one could go ahead should Spirit of Vengeance prove a success.

"I know Nic wants to do it, he's very pumped about it," the director said. "We'll just to see how well [this] does."

Things bode well based on the "tracking" information related other places. The film could see an upper $30's low $40s type 4-day Presidents weekend opener.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

I doubt I'll be seeing it in theaters, money is tight so I'm cutting back to just a hand full of movies, and I'm already planning on seeing John Carter, Avengers, and Dark Knight Rises. I will probably be Netflixing it as soon as it comes out on DVD/Blu-Ray though.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

I'll be skipping this as well, not a huge Nic Cage fan, and I'm not a huge GR fan and I didn't see the first one either, so no interest really. It will be interesting to track its box office given the rather lax intake over the last few months for projected "blockbusters" I wasn't expecting "The Vow" to do so well for instance opening weekend , I don't think I've seen much press for this film either. I've seen the TV spots of course, but haven't seen Cage do any press junkets yet. IIRC the first film had mixed reviews and a luke warm response. I was surprised they they went ahead with a sequel.

Actually the box office is up over year-to-year at this point, by about 10% says BOM. If The Vow is your first noticeable instance then apply that across the board for every weekend thus far this year.
The Devil Inside, Underworld Awakening, Contraband and Safe House. None of these were expected to pull in the opening type money they did. Especially Devil and Safe House, those blew past expectations. Liam Neeson's The Grey was one of few that opened as expected. So Sony and GR fans have to hope the trend continues over Presidents Day weekend.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

Saw the first one, it was okay, but the whole supernatural devil curse stuff isn't all that interesting to me.

The 70's version of the character was more interesting, the spirit inside Blaze was not a good guy, IIRC...

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

Ghost Rider is one of my favourite characters, but I really wish they'd do it justice with a proper grindhouse style flick instead of trying to take the concept super seriously. Getting the Crank guys in seems like a step in the right direction though.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

A friend and I are seeing the 7:15CST film, anyone else going tonight?

I dont' see a need for a separate review thread for this, we can just post them here.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

Harry from AICN really liked it.

Damn. I was hoping it would be good.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

So far it has a 28 on Metacritic, which means for that me that unless everyone here loves it, I probably won't be seeing this.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

I enjoyed myself. It was stupid, but fun. The plot was a little generic, but the action scenes looked great and were well shot. The Nic Cage freakout 20 minutes in was spectacular.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

I'm thinking about catching the $6 matinee tomorrow, but... I dunno. It's probably pretty bad that I'm waffling on a $6 matinee.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

I heard the film is pretty terrible. Big surprise there.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

Yeah I've seen nearly zero buzz for this film, and have read negative reviews which doesn't surprise me. I was really surprised they even green lighted a sequel in the first place. It will probably win this weekend though. Not much competition really right now. After that...who knows. Has Cage even done any press junkets for this film? I know I haven't seen any, but then I've not been paying much attention.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

My grade: B
Is it a shocker it has bad reviews, no, it's this months new cool trend, bash Cage and/or Ghost Rider. Fads, huh.

So what are some things in this film one might like, I'll share mine:
  • I liked how they explained why the devil looks different. Ciran Hands vs Peter Fonda.
  • I liked the nods to acknowledging his stunt rider days and I don't mean the storyboards. The bonding moments with Danny on the highway doing bike stunts.
  • Incorporating the Zarathos element inherent with the comic version. And that explanation sequence between Blaze and Moreau was nicely done.
  • The use of Negative Space and filming in a Negative manner worked well in several scenes. Such as the purging of the Rider scene and "Decay vision".
  • Glad the "pissing scene" was only an in-joke visual for Johnny and Danny and not an actual moment in the film.
  • Tying into the first film again, how the Rider fears and/or is powerless in the light AND how events in the film change that.
  • How we see the Rider as a hero, controlled by Blaze in that final sequence. Not just a force of nature.

So, in fairness what could've been better, my thoughts on that:
  • I know they spent less money but I missed the full on Penance Stare. It's done but without the f/x, more implied then *poof* dead bad guy.
  • The transitions between major set pieces could've been more fluid. A few too many Hard Cuts.
  • Nadya, Danny's mom, is suddenly a good shot with a military grade sniper rifle from 500yrds? Some 30 second bs explanation earlier in the film might've sold this better. The best backstory we get is she a bit of a gypsy.
  • Personally I would've liked more dialogue from the Rider. Like the Hulk films I feel they've missed this twice now. Neither character is that silent in their own book.

The few location cinematography shots we got were great. Liked seeing the Monks chiseled out monastic hideout.
The castle was very nice.
The amphitheater ruins for the ritual were cool.
Nice cameos by Anthony Stewart Head(Giles of BtVS) and Christopher Lambert.
Idris Elba did a very servicable job as well. Not Heimdell awesome but still a respectable performance. Cage was a much, much better Johnny Blaze this time imo.
Some nice humor although I can see where for some a few moments might be over the top(Jerry Springer's 1/2 second cameo perhaps).
The twinkie scene got several laughs at my viewing.

It's a fun movie, cut loose and enjoy the film. Oscar bait it's not but in all objectiveness there are worse films, worse comic films out there than this. Don't allow yourself to get caught up in the seemingly current "Hip to bash Cage and/or Ghost Rider" bandwagon this month. You'll miss a fun time at the theater and be forced to sit through The Vow.
