There was something about Gerry Anderson and 60's sci-fi that has always appealed to me- the 'space age', almost Jetsons-like look of things, especially in productions like Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, and so on. Not just the look, but the somewhat stereotypical, dudley-do-right upright nature of the characters. Underwater bases, buildings that could retract into or rise from the Earth, etc.
I always thought that the Enterprise era would have benefited from some of this retro-styling. A new Earth rebuilt from the ashes of nuclear war, man's first expansion into deep space, and early ship designs that could have been different than a transplanted 24th Century one. I'm not suggesting that Enterprise should have been done in supermarionation or anything like that, but maybe stealing some of those thematic elements- like a UESPA HQ that was a little more like SHADO headquarters in UFO.
