Georgia might have executed an innocent man

Well, if you had someone in your family that was raped, tortured and killed, then you understand why some people are for the death penalty. But I think if we learn to forgive the world would be a better place...

Justice isn't about revenge and I hope that if somebody in my family was murdered I would still be sober enough to stand by my principles and be against the death penalty. The state should not be killing people.

There's a reason you don't let the family of the victim decide the sentence but an impartial judge or jury.

To tell you the truth...some people really do deserve to die. There are only a few people that truly belong in prisons or deserve to die. But that doesn't necessarily mean I agree with the death penalty. It nurture vengeance and that is what make people go crazy. You can't fight death and suffering when you loose someone or being a victim yourself. Accepting it feels much better and cause less heartache in the long run.

And it teaches people that control is only an illusion. You can't really control how things will turn out. Life is suffering...

Some people may "deserve" to die, but I don't think any person is qualified to make that determination for anyone else.

Look on the bright side if he is really innocent and it's eventually proven, I doubt there'll be anymore executions for along time in this country.

The federal government can't interfere with each state affairs...at least that's the way it should be. They have no business dragging people to jail for smoking marijuana in California for medical purposes.

The counter arguement to that would be what if it was someone in your family that was tried, convicted and executed only later to turn out to be innocent. Would those people still be pro-death penalty? It's easy to be for something it doesn't directly appear to impact you.

I just had this discussion, and I'm not sure: Does anyone think his skin color and social status mattered in this?

I thought made that pretty clear already. Mistake do happen...and I too agree that the death penalty should be abolished for this reason.

I never said you were pro death penalty, I was merely providing the counter argument to the argument you stated which is sometimes used.
