George Takei Just Posted This On Twitter about Space Force

The space exploration and scientific research mission is still NASA.
And defense is still military, a major aspect of Starfleet.

Congress created it.
President Trump in June of 2018 directed the Department of Defense to start the processes of establishing the U.S. Space Force. Provisions for the Space Force were a part of the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act, which was signed into law by Trump on 20 December 2019. Upon that signing the U.S. Space Force was brought into existence.

Trump created it, he was the instigator and driving force.

Trump didn't have to sign it into law, ball in Trump's court. And again, it was Trump who advanced the idea

That's not how it works. Signing the legislation does not mean that the president created a branch of the armed services, something the Constitution specifically says a president cannot do. As for Trump advancing the idea, yes. But the bi-partisan-sponsored House legislation, for a branch within the Department of the Air Force known as the "Space Corps" at the time, was around for a year before Trump ever mentioned it. And what Trump proposed was a totally separate Department of the Space Force. Congress brought it back within DAF as originally proposed

All I know is, a division of the Air Force did not need to be spun off into its own expensive Armed Force. The only reason to do that is to line the pockets of defense contractors and buy the loyalty of officers in the Pentagon by giving them raises and shiny new titles.

That may not be the only reason and some are going to be valid, but what are some other possibilities/solutions to this deemed problem?

There was no problem. The thing we now call the Space Force was more than capable of performing its duties as a division of the Air Force, and it would have saved taxpayer money. The formation of the Space Force was a solution in search of a problem that did not exist.

Do you/did you have this same objection about the division of the Army that was spun off into it's own expensive Armed Force called the Air Force?

The United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) was the aerial warfare service component of the United States Army between 1926 and 1941. After World War I, as early aviation became an increasingly important part of modern warfare, a philosophical rift developed between more traditional ground-based army personnel and those who felt that aircraft were being underutilized and that air operations were being stifled for political reasons unrelated to their effectiveness. The USAAC was renamed from the earlier United States Army Air Service on 2 July 1926, and was part of the larger United States Army. The Air Corps became the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) on 20 June 1941, giving it greater autonomy from the Army's middle-level command structure. During World War II, although not an administrative echelon, the Air Corps (AC) remained as one of the combat arms of the Army until 1947, when it was legally abolished by legislation establishing the Department of the Air Force.[1]

Good points. Although, I'm thinking that a more apt comparison from an organizational viewpoint would be the Navy and the Marine Corps (which some equally short-sighted folks were trying to do away with around the same period the USAF was born, ironically because "it just duplicated stuff the Army was doing").

And you might find this interesting, today USSF began establishing its command structure. See the details here: https://www.spaceforce.mil/News/Art...ransition-into-field-organizational-structure

USSF is not only a good idea, it was one long overdue in happening.

Well gosh, I guess I can rest easy now knowing that the United States Space Force is ready to protect us from the threat of Klingon aggression.

Three swings, three misses. Walk it off, dude.
