George Takei Just Posted This On Twitter about Space Force

Sweet shit. The Space Force's logo is just a variation of the USAF Space Command logo used since the 1980s. No one has ever pointed out the Space Command logo's resemblance to Starfleet's logo, but suddenly the Space Force starts using the Space Command logo and everyone is crying that it looks like Starfleet?

No one commented on this similarity for the past 38 years. Why is it suddenly an issue now?

^^this, indeed. They didn't even remotely whine 38 years ago, which proves a point...

...Additional commentary as to what the point might very well be below, but it folds into another comment that I will quote first and i don't want to double-up.

Well, I wouldnt say that anti-Trumpers suddenly took an interest in the world. It's more of a default hostility to anything he says, does, announces, or proposes. This is just the latest example.

In a nutshell, it all boils down to three little letters: "T". "D". "S". It's all getting legitimately ridiculous, and it matters not an iota what they think about with any aspect of current day politics.

It doesn't prove anything. If someone was to "whine" about the subject in 1982, how would they do it? Over coffee in the break room? Letter to the editor? Type it up and Xerox it in a fanzine? What evidence would there be today? You're comparing two completely different media worlds.

Maybe, but what about the reactions we're seeing in this thread along the lines of "CBS better sue over this." CBS (or I guess it was Paramount back then) hasn't cared for 38 years, why would anyone suddenly expect them to sue now?

Yeah, that's silly. It's not proof of "deranged" political motivation, though.

Well we know it's political based on how many of the objections on Twitter specifically mention Trump. That he is the opposite of everything Starfleet stands for, he's the Evil Dark Lord Of Evilness who is perverting the Sacred Delta symbol, etc.

Well, the personnel will be here on Earth. That accounts for the camo. It's not like we have starships for them to beam up to. It's the Space Command people who used to be Air Force who are now spun off as their own separate service. But these are for the most part, the same people doing the same jobs they were already doing.

Well, whether that is "factual" is another matter, and then this is just a straight political debate about Trump. That debate doesnt interest me. It's enough to say that the SF logo announcement provoked strong negative reactions from many, including within the Star Trek community. The driving force behind a lot of this was hostility to Trump, justified or not.

Okay I think at this point we should end the political side of the discussion. There’s Misc or TNZ for that.

Thanks
