Generations: A Defence

Data being given emotions was genius.

That was the point where Data jumped the shark for me. They made an ass out of one of the best written characters in Trek. He had a tremendously rich and detailed background but once TNG went to the big screen, way too often he was used quite unsuccessfully as comic relief. Oddly enough, while I felt NEM was the weakest of the four films, Data's death was written wonderfully. Ironically, his sacrificial death brought him as close to humanity as his character could ever come, and without the emotion chip. Excellent! I feel the same way about how Worf was handled in the films: great character that was completely mis-handled in the films. Pity.

Back to GEN: I totally agree with whomever said that the score was great. It is my favorite of all 10 films.

For the people who don't know what jumping the shark means, it basically means when the show has gone too far, or something stupid. It originates from Happy Days where Fonzie literally jumps a shark.

Now trekkerguy, I mean this without trying to be offensive but, you're a moron. The whole reason star trek fans don't like this film is that they killed off Kirk in the worst way possible. Infact Picard just bought him back for the sole purpose that Kirk could die.

In my opinion, I think if Kirk had to die at all, it would be on board the Enterprise bridge. I suppose the little fanboy inside of me would have like to have seen him on the bridge of the Enterprise-D, but atleast Berman did something right in that respect.

Calling him a moron isn't really helpful, but I do think he's being a bit deliberately obtuse here. trekkerguy is certainly entitled to his opinion that Generations was a great film, Kirk's death was great, Data's newfound emotions were great, etc., but he ought to at least acknowledge that his opinion is in the minority, not that it's "just an opinion."

Oh no, they got to you too.

It's like a damn Resident Evil game, 'cept the zombies are screaming for bad TNG films, not brains.

Cky, we get it...Generations is the biggest stinkiest pile of dung ever to exist...can you PLEASE let it go? Let those of us who don't share your rabid hatred of the film get on with things without having to put up with your hyperbole every other post?

I wouldn't be saying this if you even had a half-interest in a reasoned debate on the merits of the film. It's clear that you don't...

Sorry, can't call someone a moron and it not be offensive.

It really doesn't matter that my opinion is in the minority, that wasn't my
point here. My point was that just because a majority feels something is
shit doesn't make that fact. There is infact, no fact in entertainment.
You may feel it's shit as well an overwhelming majority, but it in no way
makes it a fact, especialy not in the eyes of anyone who does enjoy it.

Now until certain people can grow up here and not insult other posters...
I'm done here.

Jolan Tru.

Well, maybe we can all meet up in another thread and chase our tails there.

Meanwhile, it's time to say goodnight to this thread.
