I've started a poll in the Trek XI forum about whether the movie is favored more by people who are fans of TOS, or those who aren't. (And also which of those groups has more people who dislike it.) The poll has 48 voters so far, but I realize that putting it in the Trek XI forum means I'm limiting myself to a certain subset of voters. I'm assuming that the majority of people browsing the Trek XI forum will be fans of the movie. So, I wanted to try to extend the voting to the general population. The thread is here, please vote!
And, in case the question comes up, I'll be forthright about the fact that I am not a fan of the movie, but my purpose in this poll is not to try to prove something about what may or may not be "wrong" with the movie. I recognize that it was popular, and I'm at peace with that; this poll is only motivated by scientific curiosity.
