General Trek Questions and Observations

Does anyone noticed any trends in the names chosen for Human characters in various series? I have the impression that TOS chose first and last name pairings for minor characters that were multicultural more often (first from one culture, last from another), or that more dignified/aristocratic sounding names were given to characters in those days. Whereas TNG did a bit of that early on but shelved it.

Am I off-base/missing something?
The only one I can think of is Jose Tyler.

I don't think I would describe Kirk as impatient, vain or egoistic.

The only one on there that I would consider a true favorite of mine is Darmok. CotEoF and Mirror are up there but there's several TOS episodes I'd put over them.

A pretty good slate overall. Can't really complain about any of them winning the poll; they're all genuine contenders.

In the original pilot episode "The Cage", we saw a similar hat on Captain Pike's TV. Here's a link to a good pic and GSchnitzer's replica.

I have no idea if this was the original intention, but an old fan manual combined the hat with the dress uniform seen in the Orion sequence from "The Cage":
