The signs were in the episode I mentioned (dunno the ep.title sorry).
Pretty insipid stuff by any standard or am I alone in thinking that?
You are alone in thinking that.

Basically.I mean, isn't S31 essentially a DISCO movie?
Hehehe...wasn't TOS pretend? The androids getting talked to death were real? The Doomsday Machine? Warp drive??Geez, I only used it once until I had to explain it for you. So, no, I don't "keep using that word."
Let me try again. All centuries in ST are fictional. I'm glad you get that.
The fictional nature of said centuries will not make or break a series premise. It's the execution that matters. Therefore, setting the Academy series in the 32nd Century is not going to inherently help or hinder the Academy series.
That was a direct reply to a specific comment made by another poster. A non-issue until you confusedly bumbled into it. Of course, you're free to participate in the conversation, but it helps if you understand what is being said first.
Also: Reading comprehension is your friend.
Well, I did say it was all pretend. Not sure why you're surprised?Hehehe...wasn't TOS pretend? The androids getting talked to death were real? The Doomsday Machine? Warp drive??
I've been living in a sham!
The only Disco connection is that Georgiou is in it. Otherwise, there's no connection to Disco as it's set in the early 24th century with Rachel Garrett in it.
This is Trek fandom, sir. You can take your balanced and reasonable attitudes elsewhere!SFA, I'm on the fence and will probably stay on the fence until I've seen the first episode.
Did anyone notice there were a lot of fans not keen on Discovery spinoffs: Sec 31 and SFA, but the minute details were released on location, characters, actors timeliness people became interested again? It's really all about the setup.
I wonder if Kirk tried to talk C-3PO from Star Wars to death. Who would last longer?Hehehe...wasn't TOS pretend? The androids getting talked to death were real? The Doomsday Machine? Warp drive??

We obviously disagree on DIS. I enjoy it ok, although it's on track to be my new least favorite ST series, replacing VOY on the bottom rung. But, again, I still enjoy it as decent entertainment, just not as much as the other series. So, I'm not a hater but I also don't love it.Did anyone notice there were a lot of fans not keen on Discovery spinoffs: Sec 31 and SFA, but the minute details were released on location, characters, actors timeliness people became interested again? Same here. Some is better than others. But that's true with everything in life!Even mediocre Trek is better to me than most other sci-fi. That's why I'm still a fan after all these decades.
Alcohol consumption has been with Trek since Boyce mixed his first martini. All the shows have had permanent sets were the characters relax and drink. So it's not going away anytime soon. I don't think the world really cares that much about characters relaxing in such an environment.I've been having problems with some of the messaging of newer Trek. Rios from Picard was shown smoking and drinking alcohol in a way that was obviously supposed to be filmed as "cool" and masculine, technobabble about holographic cigars or long forgotten lines from years ago about synthehol aside (and it's clear they were drinking the real thing anyway). In a world where once again image is everything, I'm uncomfortable with that sort of messaging.
I don't think we have smoking by any of the heroes in Star Wars, although they obviously have alcohol use by characters like Kenobi (he says he's going to get a drink in Attack of the Clones and maybe the 1977 film) and obviously the SW theme park at Disney parks serve alcohol despite Walt's demands before he died that no Disney park serve alcohol period.
I wasn't a fan of Rios smoking either, but I wasn't worried about the message it was sending. Everyone watching was over 30, and most were over 40. By then, you've either been a smoker or you've never smoked and you're not going to start because of this. If Picard had been aimed towards children, teenagers, or even very young adults, then I'd feel differently.I've been having problems with some of the messaging of newer Trek. I'm fine with it from obviously evil characters like Vadic I guess. Seeing a relative who had her mind destroyed by secretly vaping and it gave her permanent schizophrenia, I just can't see these things the same way anymore.ya I wasn't a fan of the smoking or drinking either. I liked Rios a lot, although not how his story ended
