Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

Normally I wouldn't take stock in a site that can be edited by almost anyone, but it's been pretty leaky for Trek over the last few years.
I always thought that most of IMDB's leaks come from the actors themselves (or their agents) perhaps being overly aggressive at adding new credits as quickly as possible.

Some stuff bothered me...... a bit. It doesn't really matter. But surely there have been some races over the eons whose knowledge of genomics, etc rivaled that of the Progenitors...or even more advanced?

Yeah. I bet most failed though. Not to mention we don't know if there were another ancient races who did the same, not to mention picked up creatures from one world and took them to another and manipulated them in a way that made it possible for them to evolve into primate-like creatures....

I think all this complaining about nostalgia and memberberries will turn out to be total nothing burgers in 50 years when people look back at all of Star Trek as nostalgia as a whole. Same way people wouldn't give a two hoots today in seeing a movie from 1950 that happen to feature 1930s "memberberries" inserted in them from a 1950s era nostalgic filmmaker. I don't think its worth getting all worked up about it honestly. No coincidence "crowd pleaser" became a coined phrase in the entertainment medium. Its all about that at the end of the day.

Sad but true.

Instead of telling a good story it must appeal to the masses.

Well I'm guilty myself of liking guilty pleasure movies. Like Rocky 4. Got the VHS tape as a child and wore out the tape rewatching it over and over. Even though I eventually saw it as 80s cheese.
It is a thing in life for many

Oh, my top film list would make people both be surprised and unsurprised. But, my larger point is is that people should not tell me to watch something because it's popular. Tell me to watch it because you actually, genuinely enjoy it, and can articulate why. Otherwise, it's not going to impress me.

Wasn't it simply that the Progenitors's scientists seeded the oceans of primordial worlds? Doesn't sound like groundbreaking tech. Unless I'm missing something?
Yeah, I’m trying to figure out the worth/threat of this technology, unless they retcon it to be much more than it was in TNG’s “The Chase.”

The exact words the Ancient Humanoid says in “The Chase” is that they “seeded the primordial oceans of many worlds, where life was in its infancy.” If we take what she said as it is, it still took billions of years to go from Earth’s primordial ocean to humans as a sapient species.

This is a universe where they’ve had 900 years to work on the Genesis Device tech, and the Founders had the ability to genetically engineer and mass produce entire servant species hardcoded to perform specific tasks and view them as gods in the 24th century.

So why would the progenitor’s tech be a threat or be valuable beyond being a historical curiosity?

Or Vellek was just hyping it up...maybe those gravitational anomalies has an effect on Romulan/Vulcan phyisoology?

Just a box of trinkets in the end....

Exactly, it works it into the story but doesn't let it dominate. The implications are huge.

Discovery actually has a lot of references to past Trek but more tastefully than SNW or especially Picard.

It's more referential of past Trek than any prior season of Discovery, but it's still not a nostalgia-fest.

Also, this might be the first time that a modern Trek series has explicitly referenced another modern Trek series in a big way (not counting the SNW/LDS crossover).
