Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

As long as they are, you know situation, appropriate. Not when trying to navigate an asteroid field or while under attack or when the ship is being digested by the mycellial network.

There was an ep where it seemed a H2H was coming and Saru said something like "admirable sentiment, but we don't have time for that right now." End of S2?

I mean, Pike & the Dr. have a H2H in "The Cage." It has been there from the start.
Appropriate timing hasn't been a thing since Generations at least.

Michelle Paradise's thoughts about DSC ending with Season 5.

Showrunner Michelle Paradise on STAR TREK: DISCOVERY's Cancellation, and Filming More Scenes for Season 5 • TrekCore.com

Cutting-and-pasting:

“I don’t think [knowing about the cancellation] would have [changed Season 5]… Each season in Discovery we explore big themes and big ideas; this season is no exception. Without giving any spoilers away, this season is – thematically — about purpose and meaning. I’m not sure you can get much bigger than that, ultimately.

So after we finished filming and then found out that this would be our last season, we sort of talked about it – if this [had to] happen on any given season of the show, it felt like this was the season for that to have happened. Because when we found out that we were going to be able to shoot some additional material, we looked back, but there was nothing that we changed in the season itself.

We did some additional shooting, but we didn’t do reshoots. We didn’t have to go back and chop up episodes and change a bunch of things. It felt very organic, what we were doing for those last few days of shooting, and I think people who don’t know that we didn’t know going in that it would be our last season will have no idea that we didn’t know. I think it will have felt planned.

Even for people who do know, I think it will feel very, very satisfying when we get to the end, I think we’ve done really wonderful work over the season just for the season itself — and then, our characters get, you know, a proper ending.
If Michelle Paradise is satisfied with DSC ending after Season 5 if it has to, then I'm satisfied.

I think it'll be Discovery's best season.

The fact each season is mostly self-contained was an advantage.

Me, too.

But Academy greenkit but not Legacy, and cutting Prodigy loose does not have me confident in the suits at Paramount.
All of Trek's P+ shows spun out from Discovery except Picard. Most of the viewers, subscribers, critical acclaim, awards, etc etc have come from those. They have reason to stick with what works.

I think the other aspect the suits are considering is they don't want to go backwards. Most people liked Picard season 3 and it performed well, so let's move on.

I look at these things case-by-case. I'll wait until I see the end of the fifth season before I form an opinion about whether or not I think there should be a Disco TV Movie to follow-up with.

Every season was written as if the story could've stopped there. I expect that S5 would've been no different even if it hadn't become the final season. The wild card is whatever they added as an addendum, and how much of a sense of finality there might be in that addendum as opposed to it being just a stopping point.

The cold, harsh truth is: I don't expect anything after this. I'm braced for this to be The End. It'll be a pleasant surprise if that turns out not to be true.

Thanks for that! What a lovely and funny group of people. So great to see them together. Some really heartwarming moments in this interview; like when Wilson Cruz tears up when talking about how much he loves Anthony Rapp, how much he means to him and how much he’ll miss working with him. The funniest moment is when they are talking about how to learn technobabble dialog and David Ajala says he comes from a school of thought of also learning everyone else’s lines in a scene, but when he first looked at other character’s line on Discovery he just said to himself: “Ain’t nobody got time for that!
