Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

Apparently Frakes said Season 3 embraces a more 'traditional and optimistic outlook'.

Though Frakes had been barred from revealing any secrets from the Star Trek show, he reiterated that the next season of Discovery embraces a much more traditional and optimistic outlook. He also stated that, despite newer Star Trek shows veering away from Gene Roddenberry’s obvious optimism, as seen in the original series, Frakes doesn’t believe any of the shows (or even JJ Abrams’ reboot) deviated too far from Roddenberry’s initial vision.

Though I'm not sure how much info he gets about the entire season's story arc, for all we know this could be just for his episodes specifically.

"In 2257, a crack commando crew of the USS Discovery was sent to the distant future and classified by the not-military for a canon crime they didn't commit. These men and women promptly escaped from maximum security gatekeepers to the Beta Quadrant underground. Today, still wanted by Control they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them....maybe you can hire The Disco Team."

Boy, the reaction to season one must have really sent them reeling, to still be doing damage control even after bringing in Uber-optimistic Pike and co.

I don't see how this is damage control. They had been saying before even Season 1 began that the show would get lighter, so before any fan reactions.
Yeah, not seeing damage control but I can understand the perception of it. It's pretty clear BTS was chaotic, so I see them becoming more uniform under stable leadership, not trying to control damage. If that were the case Section 31 would be out, and Pike would be in.

They're really embracing the 'Disco' moniker

Honestly.
Why didn't the person who was offended just tell Mosley he was offended?
Why run to HR over something that could have easily been solved with a moment of conversation.
It's not like he was acting like the two folks from the first season, he was relating a personal-life story not attacking somebody.

Anybody wanna bet that HR now has to run any complaints through Kurtzman or Paradise BEFORE calling one of their employees.

As someone who has training yearly for company policies on work place respect, and the emphasis on speaking up I can imagine feeling the pressure to do something.

Guys, you're not doing anything wrong and I understand that you just want to remain out of the fray, but can we keep the Walter Mosley n-word in the writer's room discussion confined to the existing thread? It makes it easier for us to keep an eye on what's happening. Thanks.

Hopefully in October we'll have release dates for the new Short Treks at least.

This drought is killer. And not in a good way. I think having more Star Trek series isn't such a bad idea. In the old days, there were only three months between seasons. Nine months to a year is ridiculous. But if the seasons are going to be so short, they might as well have other series to pad things out with.

I could go for some "Medium Treks" honestly. Basically some one-off episodes, feature-lengths, and miniseries to tide us over.

I mean, the Discoprise set is apparently still sitting there collecting dust...

Hell, they don't even have to be canonical stories. Do some silly "The Misadventures of Captain Tilly" stories with her pretending to be captain on the bridge during some downtime or as part of her training.

I hope they found a new character for Mary Chieffo to play, so they can keep her in Discovery.

Even if Section 31 takes place in the 23rd Century, L'Rell can't keep her position forever. The constant threat of war needs to come back in time for TOS and I don't see that happening with L'Rell in charge.
