I'm firmly convinced that a lot of Discovery's issues across both seasons come down to one single thing: Too many people being involved, with no particular central creative vision backing up the show.

So, now that facebook's image servers have been down for hours and all of social media is ablaze with people sharing what the site's AI algorithm has tagged their pictures with, I decided to take a peek myself. Well, my cover picture is a screencap of the Discoprise from the end of Will You Take My Hand?, that facebook helpfully described as "Cover Photo, Image may contain: night."
So, I guess that makes it official. Facebook's image processing AI is unable to identify the Discoprise as the Starship Enterprise. It must have something to do with that 25% difference thing... Flawless logic!![]()
First time poster here. As a Star Trek fan for years I was excited by a new series and while Discovery Season 1 didn't really capture my attention, I liked it don't get me wrong, it didn't feel Star Trek. I was happy though with season 2 as I felt it got closer to Star Trek we've known. There were still issues but for sure the series was a step up and with season 3 coming soon, I am interested to see where they go with this.
Too many cooks...
Why only these two? Despite how common it is in sci-fi, absolutely nothing requires that the entire galaxy is at roughly the same level of cultural and technological advancement. Yes, Star Trek has always been guilty of this, but even that didn't stop the Enterprise or Voyager routinely encountering pre-warp people or civilizations that have just developed the warp drive and were on the brink of joining the galactic community.Yes, Season 3 is puzzling. Because it's hard to imagine Disco 930 years in the future. I mean either Control eventually won and they'll be surrounded with nothing but primitive technology-less people. Disco being the only piece of technology around OR Control will have effectively been completely defeated and Disco will be as obsolete as a trireme (ancient Roman rowing ship) today!!!

Basically, to go with the Roman analogy, I'd like to see a setting akin to a Roman legion transported into pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, just before the Spanish arrive. But, to close off my tangent, the point is, the writers are free to do anything they want with the setting, they don't have to limit themselves to either Control wiping out everything or a triumphant super-advanced Federation controlling the whole galaxy.
I prefer finding ways to be excited about Disco instead of ways not to be.
We're actually going truly into the unknown. Except for the brief glimpse in "Calypso", where everything was contained within Discovery, we've never had anything take place in this time period.
One thing is for certain, it will be the worst 3rd season of television ever produced in the history of mankind.
Nah. As long as they lay off the fanwank and give us a half-way engaging story I'll be content. I'll be really happy if they can figure out a way to stick the landing on their story arc, which has been a big problem for me during the first two seasons.
One thing is for certain, it will be the worst 3rd season of television ever produced in the history of mankind.

And frankly, we can't even be 100% certain that Calypso took place in this timeframe. The ship had been abandoned for 1000 years at that point. For all we know, it's 1000 years past the 900 year jump we just took. Or, it's 1000 years past some other time period that they journey to further down the road.
One thing is for certain, it will be the worst 3rd season of television ever produced in the history of mankind.

Optimism indeedI prefer finding ways to be excited about Disco instead of ways not to be.
